The hotel is only 5 mins walk from Gunwharf Quay, which was great for us. Parking on site was limited, but because I am disabled, the Hotel staff reserved space for me and could not have been more helpful. There is a multistorey across the road. We had dinner. The menu was very limited, but the service was good and the... More

This place was adequate. Check in process was smooth and friendly however the place was extremely hot throughout, Interiors pretty old-style including an excellent entrance hall. The room pleasant enough - really hot and couldn't see any air-con apart from the window. Wifi was free, shower no bath, room cosy in a kind of 1990s decor kind of way. The... More

Indeed we have done a great deal worse in Portsmouth and Southsea. Like anywhere in the city that is not a recent development the RMC suffers from a chronic parking problem, but has mitigated that with it's discount arrangements with a local car park. This, I feel, should be more prominently advertised on the website. But with petrol prices as... More

I enjoyed a very comfortable stay and good breakfast in this unusual hotel, which still bears all the hallmarks of its history as a naval club. The localtion is close to the historic dockyard, harbour station and Gunwharf Quay shopping area and only a few minutes walk from the city centre. It would make a good base for tourism, although... I was really nervous after reading some of the reviews on this site but was pleasantly surprised. The room we booked was spacious and brighter than I expected, but do not look too closely at the quality of the fixtures and fittings. There does appear to be an upgraded part of the hotel so there may be better quality rooms... More

Stayed here for 3 nights B&B as visiting my sister who is currently based at HMS Nelson. We stayed in room 224. Unfortunately this part of the hotel (not sure about the rest of it as didn't look around everywhere else - but the bit I did see looked like it was fresher!) was really dated. There was also quiet... More

Last stayed here about 24 years ago and parts of it have not changed a bit: the tiny, old fashioned lift, stained carpets on certain floors and the manner of some of the breakfast staff, but the price, being ex Navy and there for a reunion, it suited my needs perfectly. I would not, however, stay here if travelling with... More

When deciding whether to stay at the Royal Maritime Club, it is important to understand the history of the place: http://www.royalmaritimeclub.co.uk/our-history If you are expecting a typical hotel experience, go someplace else. The Club is not a typical hotel, and shouldn't be judged by those standards. It is not a retro experience, either; it is instead "authentic." That means you... More

We booked an upgraded room and we were very glad we did as the hotel is very much in need of a major face lift. Housekeeping could certainly do with a big kick up the bum, you could see the dust on the skirting boards and bed head. The communal rooms are well past dated they are positivley shabby. The... More

The Royal Maritime Cub is exactly that 'A Club'. We found the Rooms and Foyer a bit dated but we thought that it added to the interesting history of the Royal. The location is very good with a 5 minute walk to the Docklands Museum. The rooms were clean and the Breakfast had a nice selection. The parking can be a... More
