I booked this hotel for myself and partner as part of a weekend to enjoy the Mary Rose museum, HMS Victory, HMS Warrior, etc, and my decision to book was based on proximity - everything was within easy walking distance. On arrival, the staff could not have been more pleasant and helpful, and (?because they were empty?) we were up-graded... More

great place, lovely building, big rooms, well stocked, great staff, truly wonderful in fact. Bit rough around the edges in places, there have been two plaster boards at the top of the stairs for over a year now. However, it is much better, nicer, cheaper and bigger than local hotels which are over twice as expensive. The only real problem... More

This club is obviously a maritime inspired location and full of interesting Navy memorabilia. The staff were helpful and polite. Although a bit dated, we found it clean and tidy. The rooms were comfortable, and had everything we required. The bar areas were just as expected and reasonably priced. The breakfast was absolutely top notch!

Over 40 years ago, my father helped his brother, Ken, to build a conservatory. Now, although Uncle Ken's conservatory will never be visited by Kevin McCloud or featured on George Clarke's Amazing Spaces, it hasn't fallen down. And it still does the job. So, whilst I'd never take my wife to the RMH for a romantic weekend, when I'm off... More

I was in Portsmouth after a business trip and decided to have a trip down memory lane being ex RN. The Maritime is very comfortable, clean and has all the facilities you need for an enjoyable night. The staff are very pleasant, extremely helpful and nothing is too much trouble. I spent most of my time out and about but... More

We needed to be in the queue to board the cross Channel ferry by 0800 on a Wednesday in early December , so rather than get stuck in the incoming rush hour traffic , we elected to stay near the centre and travel out . This worked well , only ten minutes drive to the ferry check in . Also... More

we went here at half term, just 2 adults, and we stayed a couple of nights . The hotel is near the Dockyard and convenient for the dockyard visits that we made over the two days. Portsmouth was bombed heavily during the war and this is a modern building. Inside the decor gives the impression of an older building .... More

We stayed in 2-8 for 2 nights for a naval reunion, room was clean but shabby with wallpaper peeling in places, tiny with just enough space for a small double bed and draws, bed was uncomfortable presumably owing to its age, bathroom was OK clean.Spoke to the manager about the state of the room only explanation was "it was awaiting updating", (by... Walk through the doors and you are transported back to an original naval officers club. Lots of original features remain. Book a Superior Double to get one of the newer rooms. Very clean and functional. I used the bar for a nightcap, again lots of naval memorabilia on show. Breakfast is good and the Full English sets you up for... More

The Club has a lovely history, read the book in the guest room! Choose a superior room, I booked 3 and they were all equally nice, rooms 220,221,222, Nice big bathrooms, flat screen TV and kettle for tea OK there's no minibar nor telephone, but do we really need these. The price is right and the breakfast was very good,... More
