This was a great experience for me being an ex seaman. The Historic Dockyard, Spinnaker Tower and all the designer outlets at Gunwharf Quays made for a very varied and enjoyable weekend. Some of the best traditional pubs I've seen for a long time. We also visited Southsea, what a hidden gem, will be back.

I never stay at 2 star hotels as a rule, but this is different. Spotlessly clean, lots of facilities , amazingly helpful, polite staff. Fabulous breakfast. Walking distance to dockyard, and Gun Wharf Quays - loved it!!

Great location for Historic Dockyard and Gunwharf Quays. Staff were great and breakfast Buffett as good as some 4* I've stayed in but decor and general appearance is very run down and seems unloved. Bathrooms shocking decor although you could see cleaners had done their best but you can't make tatty look smart. Doesn't seem to be any temperature control... More

But that was about it, the Breakfast was good, but everything else was "AVERAGE". I have tried to think of something else that was not average, but I can't, this Hotel is average. With a bit of work to the decor, it could be good, but no, this Hotel is average. Oh wait, in the bar they had a Tottenham... More

On booking and arrival staff are very helpful and friendly. managed to park outside, but told they have access to parking across the street for a small fee, a huge bonus. Location excellent, a few minutes walk to historic docks and shopping centre, and vast selection of restaurants. The room we stayed in was clean, spacious bathroom which js unusual... More

English hotels with impressing entrances and lobbies usually becomes horribly after you have passed the elevator, but not in this case. The rooms are fresh and clean and the beds are good. And the hotel still have the charm of a real English Maritime Club.

I booked this hotel for myself and partner as part of a weekend to enjoy the Mary Rose museum, HMS Victory, HMS Warrior, etc, and my decision to book was based on proximity - everything was within easy walking distance. On arrival, the staff could not have been more pleasant and helpful, and (?because they were empty?) we were up-graded... More

great place, lovely building, big rooms, well stocked, great staff, truly wonderful in fact. Bit rough around the edges in places, there have been two plaster boards at the top of the stairs for over a year now. However, it is much better, nicer, cheaper and bigger than local hotels which are over twice as expensive. The only real problem... More

This club is obviously a maritime inspired location and full of interesting Navy memorabilia. The staff were helpful and polite. Although a bit dated, we found it clean and tidy. The rooms were comfortable, and had everything we required. The bar areas were just as expected and reasonably priced. The breakfast was absolutely top notch!
