Have visited here a few times now with a few friends and family and I am yet to be disappointed. The food is top quality and clearly the chef has mastered the art of both presentation and flavour as all the meals we had were cooked to perfection. The decor is incredible and it has a mystical and historical feel... More

This was an incredible place to stay during a hiking trip that had me stay in 5 different hotels and B&B's over 5 days. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the food and drink were delicious as well. Michael was a huge help and was very entertaining to talk to. The room and bathrooms were very nice and... Perhaps my expectations were too high, having visited the Lion on a cloud of racing bliss one champagne fuelled morning in March for a delicious brunch. I have to say I was a bit disappointed. Its not cheap and it is a little bit conceited. If grey is the new beige then the Lion is a tiny bit beige in... More

We live quite nearby and as a birthday treat after visiting Sudeley Castle called in for lunch (without booking) as friends had been and recommended it. Decor, ambience, service excellent (apart from constant cliches "absolutely"/you're welcome/no problem"). My choice of crab salad with wasabi really delicious but husband's pizza lacking in taste. Best pear tatin ever tasted but cafetiere coffee... More

We stayed for a night at the Lion as part of a celebration for my mom's 75th birthday. We had three rooms, room 5,6 and 7. All of these rooms are at the rear of the pub. Room 7 is particularly lovely but 5 and 6 were also great. Dinner was excellent and the service was attentive but not intrusive.... More

There is much that the restaurant at the Lion Inn gets right. Firstly customer service: we received a great welcome and personal, friendly and attentive service during the meal. Secondly they have a really interesting and appetising menu - I struggled to decide what to eat since it all sounded so great. I decided on the salmon pizza, others chose... More

This is beautiful pub accommodation. It is an historic building, pleasantly quirky, with small, but comfortably furnished rooms. The staff are friendly and very helpful. There is no cooling or TV in the room we stayed in, but free Wi-Fi. We liked the tilted doors and the vintage Micky Mouse in bathroom, revealed in the 2011 renovation. The bar is... More

We stopped off for a night on the way back from a wedding. From the moment we approached the front door we were made to feel welcome, with nothing too much trouble. The owner has refurbished very elegantly and has obviously chosen her staff well - attentive but not obtrusive, helpful but not pushy - it felt like a place... More

Although we only live 10 miles away, we had never been to the Lion, but inspired by the Trip Advisor reviews we took two friends along with our two girls aged 6 and 9 after a trip on the nearby heritage railway. We were not disappointed. Good choice of ale, which was well kept and proper cellar temperature. Great welcome... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Lion Inn started life as a coaching inn in the 15th Century. Over the years it has gone through many changes and played an important role in the village and surrounding areas; providing food, drink and accommodation for both people and horses, in a variety of guises. Having fallen in love with the building, Annie Fox-Hamilton took over ownership of the Lion in October 2011 and spent six months on a major renovation of the building and grounds. We were determined not to lose any of the inn’s original quirky charm; we unearthed quite a lot more than we had anticipated such as Minnie Mouse – the vintage wall painting in Room 1 we couldn’t bear to lose. The Lion has a bar, snug, restaurant, garden (ideal for alfresco dining), 6 double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and a mini suite. All have extremely comfortable beds, their own individual character and ambiance. ... more   less
