The Bear of Rodborough is a lovely hotel near Stroud. Such a pity the some of the staff let the side down! Like 'forgetting' to change the barrel and bring the drinks after happily taking payment and then being defensive when questioned! Or getting the broken hook in the bathroom fixed as promised....

We've just come back from a very nice holiday in the Cotswolds staying at the Bear of Rodborough Hotel. The hotel in general has a quaint 'oldie' feel about it which has some interesting twists and turns of corridors adding to the unique feel of the place. On Wednesday afternoon when we arrived we were attended to by Martina who... More

Stayed here for two nights at the end of June for a wedding. We had our dog with us and stayed in room 40 in the annexe. The room was smallish, but very nice, with a huge and extremely comfortable bed, and a great view. We ate in the bar on the first night, which was good, the steak pie... More

It's fabulous! I'm a fussy traveller who really notices detail and they get it so right here. Charming staff could not be more helpful. Location is stunning - well worth getting up a few minutes early to take a stroll in the morning. Food is fabulous - freshly cooked and arrives quickly, great fresh squeezed orange juice and good coffee.... More

We booked this hotel to celebrate my birthday and our wedding anniversary - we did a two night package with free upgrade on room, afternoon tea & dinner in the restaurant each night. Everything from the minute we arrived was excellent. The staff could not have been more friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The setting is amazing -... More

We were invited to the Bear for a meal by friends on a Saturday evening. As we were early we took advantage of the fine weather for a drink in the courtyard which still had charm despite looking a little tired in places. The views across the common in the restaurant helped create a pleasant atmosphere and the service was... More

The staff were friendly and welcoming, we were given a complimentary upgrade to a room with a four poster bed. The room was light and airy, nicely decorated and the bed was very comfortable. The shower was powerful and the TV was a large flat screen on the wall. The food was excellent we had the light bites in the... More

Arrived at 6pm after long day, allocated tiny room on top floor, not great for the price we paid but when the shower had no hot water things were going downhill fast. We were moved to room 47 in the new block and from hereon everything was fine, the restaurant dinner was excellent, good quality and well presented fresh food,... More

Four of us were at a house auction on the common and at 6.30pm decided to try the Bear for a meal. Already busy and a croquet match underway we still managed to get a table in the bar. It was Friday and it appears Friday is Fizz night so we had two bottles of Prosecco for £12 each, a... More

Glorious building, fabulous area, would definitely stay here again. Lots of outside seating areas, overlooking the croquet lawn or secluded within the building. My room was in the old building. A bit quirky, very comfortable, well fitted out and beautiful. Breakfast was lovely, sitting at a table with delightful views. The bar meal the night before also excellent. Only minor... More
