Went for a midweek lunch and had the Rump steak & chips, and my partner has the Ceasar Salad with a side of chunky chips. Perhaps the best chunky chips I've ever eaten - very crisp and golden and mash potato like inside. Amazing. Steak was average but reasonably priced, Caesar Salad was great. However, what always lets The Bear... More

Room 9 - cold and smelly though clean. Bed sheet clean but stained. Constant annoying whirring. Food is very average at breakfast and at the bar. Doubt anything is home made and prices are above average. Bar is expensive. Reception staff seem to find dealing with guests annoying. Disappointing.

The Bear is undoubtedly a great venue for weddings however we visited for an evening meal on a Saturday, the experience was very different. The food was very average and the service was terrible. The Staff were very inexperienced with very little sense of urgency so when the guests from the wedding left the wedding party to buy drinks from... More

A lovely hotel. Really relaxed and calm. The room was exquisite with an unexpected four poster bed (room 12). Sitting outside in the garden watching people playing croquet was so civilised! The food was beautiful too and the service perfect.

Since I moved to the Cotswolds, The Bear is one of my local pubs/restaurants. I used to go there regularly for a drink or a morning coffee but - apart from the setting and the lovely décor - I am always slightly disappointed. The Bear does not invest enough in training its staff. It's as though the management has waylaid... More

. Lovely situation up on the hills above Stroud. There is excellent parking on the main road, sharing the entrance to their wine sellers. If you come up to the Bear on the RH side, drive past it for parking, don't be tempted down the little road just before it which looks as though it might curve round into a... More

Had a wonderful stay here for my cousin's wedding this last weekend. Our room in the Annexe was perfect, exceptionally clean, welcoming and would certainly get top marks by "The Hotel Inspector", and the bed extremely comfortable, even the complimentary instant coffee in the room was good, which is very rare. The hotel itself is very picturesque with lots of... More

We stayed here for 1 night in june. The hotel and surroundings are absolutely gourgeous. Our room was beautiful and we had a great view of the common and the roaming cows. The service was fantastic, and we even recieved a complementry upgrade. The food was also really nice. The only downside is the rooms can be a little noisy,... More

We stayed here for my parents' 50th Wedding Anniversary celebrations on a DBB + afternoon tea package and it was absolutely delightful. Lovely hotel, beautifully and sympathetically extended to create a quirky layout, which also meant that there were lots of places for guests to congregate without being on top of each other. The food was absolutely excellent with a... More

Our 8th visit to the 'Bear' since it was recommended by a friend a few years ago. In a fabulous location where there are plenty of walks, common land where the likes of cows and horses are free to roam between May and October (we think), PLUS a few pubs within walking distance too. Our latest visit included a complimentary... More
