Our room was great, the bed was comfortable and the food was superb, breakfast choice & dinner were of a high standard which is why we were disappointed to find the bathroom door had a grime mark where hundreds of hands has pushed it open for years & the suitcase stand had somebodys old razor in it. It seems the... More

Stayed for just one night.Lovely grounds with croquet lawn, plenty of parking. Upon arrival had complimentary upgrade and stayed in Room 24 in the main building. Room was lovely and on a corner so had great views out of 2 windows. Huge superking bed and so comfy. Bathroom was reasonable size with a window that opened (bonus!). Public areas are... More

After reading other reviews I'd probably have cancelled if I'd not paid upfront. That would have been a mistake. There are negatives- the "Executive" rooms are comfortable but tired and in desperate need of updating (work which seems to be happening now) and the food in the bar is overpriced for such small portions- but otherwise the hotel is lovely,... We booked this through a website offering a deal for a two night stay. The deal was for a Woodchester executive room, breakfast, dinner on one night, cream tea for two one afternoon during the stay and a glass of Prosecco each on arrival. Prosecco was neither offered, nor requested by us and we did not have time for the... More

I did not stay in the hotel, but recently dined with a group of ten on the eve of a family wedding. We had chosen The Bear as somewhere comfortable, relaxing and the promise of a good dining experience. It was a poor dining experience. We waited ages for everything and had to constantly ask for basic restaurant service: bread;... More

We stayed for two nights - Friday and Saturday. I'd booked this for us to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, having looked at the website it looked perfect and we were very much looking forward to a luxurious weekend, but oh, the disappointment. The room was poor to say the least (room 57). Our view was over the car park... More

Apologies for the long and rambling review, but there's quite a bit to get through....... Stayed for two nights, Friday and Saturday. Our room was, to put it politely, shabby - There were hooks hanging off the wall in the bathroom, the TV didn't work properly (despite 2 attempts to get a new remote control, we gave up). It bore... Stayed for 3 nights, ate in Main restaurant 2 nights. Room clean & comfortable. TV not flat screen as stated, but one doesn't stay somewhere like this to watch TV all day! Free wi-fi only accessible from main building. Any issues which arose were dealt with by helpful polite staff ( for example, the phone wasn't working in our room... More

We went for a two night break for my wifes birthday and it was just perfect. Warm, freindly, with caring polite staff, good food we left very contented. We will go back and take friends.

We took a dog accompanied 3 night break at The Bear with our family dog. The hotel has a small number of rooms in the Annexe where dogs can be accommodated. This is a good walking area with walks to suit all age groups straight from the hotel entrance, including gentle strolls and a moderately strenuous 8 mile circular walk.... More
