I revisited the Bear again this weekend, but was engulfed by a huge wedding taking place. On previous visits I have enjoyed a relaxing time either sat in the bar or out in the garden terrace area, but this time the wedding was so big it seemed to engulf every area pushing other guests into corners......... Having said that the... More

Stayed here for one night. Very cosy hotel in beautiful surroundings. Had dinner in the restaurant , which was very good. Tasty, well prepared and nicely served. Breakfast also very good. Rooms quite small, but cosy.

We stayed here for one Sunday night in July, it was a promotional offer which included afternoon tea and a three course evening meal. The reception staff were exceptionally welcoming and polite, and all areas of the hotel were very clean and well maintained. We were fortunate to experience beautiful weather and it was delightful to sit on the terrace,... More

Lovely hotel, known it for years having lived locally. Attended a wedding reception for a three course meal. Starters were lovely but the main meals were not up to standard. My partner had the roast beef, however it definitely didn't look like beef and it didn't taste like it either. I had the chicken which was rolled and moulded into... More

We have just arrived back after a 2 night stay. The hotel and surroundings are lovely. Our room was in the annex ,1st floor overlooking the common with the roaming cows. (Room 51) The service was fantastic, the food in the restaurant and bar was excellent too. If the weather is good you can sit outside, have a drink and... More

Went for a midweek lunch and had the Rump steak & chips, and my partner has the Ceasar Salad with a side of chunky chips. Perhaps the best chunky chips I've ever eaten - very crisp and golden and mash potato like inside. Amazing. Steak was average but reasonably priced, Caesar Salad was great. However, what always lets The Bear... More

Room 9 - cold and smelly though clean. Bed sheet clean but stained. Constant annoying whirring. Food is very average at breakfast and at the bar. Doubt anything is home made and prices are above average. Bar is expensive. Reception staff seem to find dealing with guests annoying. Disappointing.

The Bear is undoubtedly a great venue for weddings however we visited for an evening meal on a Saturday, the experience was very different. The food was very average and the service was terrible. The Staff were very inexperienced with very little sense of urgency so when the guests from the wedding left the wedding party to buy drinks from... More

A lovely hotel. Really relaxed and calm. The room was exquisite with an unexpected four poster bed (room 12). Sitting outside in the garden watching people playing croquet was so civilised! The food was beautiful too and the service perfect.

Since I moved to the Cotswolds, The Bear is one of my local pubs/restaurants. I used to go there regularly for a drink or a morning coffee but - apart from the setting and the lovely décor - I am always slightly disappointed. The Bear does not invest enough in training its staff. It's as though the management has waylaid... More
