My partner booked this for a couple of days escape. It sits on a common with cattle grazing around the hotel & is very attractive & convenient for Bristol, Gloucester & the Forest of Dean etc. We had a bed & breakfast deal & ate dinner in the library restaurant both nights. The room was adequate with a big comfortable... More

I was bought a 'sublime Sunday' voucher for my 50th and chose to use it for my wedding anniversary. What a fabulous place. This hotel is impressive. I had no problems booking this break. All staff were polite and hard working. Our room was spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. The room contained a safe, hair dryer tv and complimentary bottle... More

I booked the 'Summer Sparkle' package which includes a glass of bubbly on arrival, one night in the hotel and dinner. We were welcomed with a room upgrade from great reception staff. The room was beautiful! Spotless, big, comfortable bed, romantic, full of character, yet modern where it matters. The dinner was delicious! I can't state enough how flavourful, plentiful... More

The hotel is beautiful in idyllic settings and the rooms are amazing, shame I was only staying one night. Only downside was the heat in rooms at night was a bit much but I could've opened the window! Breakfast was full continental and service was great. I would definitely stay again and the cows blocking the road were very entertaining!

Booked this hotel as a stopover on way back from Padstow and have to say it was a gem of a place.A lovely quirky old hotel in the middle of a large common with cows grazing freely. The hotel has lots of surprising indoor and outdoor spaces and was pleasantly busy . We had the dinner, bed and breakfast option which... More

This was our third visit The staff make you feel very welcome and valued. We didn't want to leave our little dog in the bedroom while going for breakfast in the dining room. So a table was set for us in a very attractive area of the bar. Our room has always been in the Country House area of the... More

We stayed in room 24 and had wonderful views over Rodborough Common, which is a great place to walk. We enjoyed a fantastic dinner in the restaurant and the staff were very attentive and friendly. There is a croquet lawn and lots of outside tables and chairs to relax and enjoy the sun and a drink or snack. We were... More

This would be our second review of this place; the first alittle over 12 months ago... Thankfully, the mix of ancient and sympathetically added-to place hasn't changed, indeed a few areas have been spruced up since then both in terms of fabric and service, and one hopes the small chain's offerings at their other venues is similarly consistent. If you... More

Loved everything about this classic hotel. Great room on the top floor - cosy and snug; Fabulous location - scenery and views are beautiful; scrummy breakfast - plenty of choice whatever your taste; friendly bar with good choice of ales and snacks; cream teas also available. They even have a bowling green.
