The Bear of Rodborough is a sprawling country inn located on the moors high above Stroud. My wife and I stayed here in August 2015 and used it as a base to explore The Cotswolds. We had a second-floor room which was large and enjoyed fantastic views across the valley. We could also look out across the common with its... More

We stayed here in June 2015. Lovely hotel. Rooms are nicely decorated and food is nice. Got a good deal on this stay. Good pub down the road as well and some nice walks around, epsecially on the Common.

When we got back from the wedding, we had to stand around for about an hour, with mulled wine and cannopes, it wasnt made obvious that there was somewhere to sit, although I doubt if the designated room would have held everyone at the reception. The buffet, we didnt eat, but, noticed many not empty plates. The dance floor is... More

Dear Claire R, Thank you for your recent review. As with many weddings a ‘drinks reception’ is held after the ceremony for approximately 60-90 minutes where people generally stand and interact with other wedding guests whilst photos are being taken and the bride and groom are congratulated by all. The Garden Hall and Terrace room was reserved for this as... More

Stopped off here or lunch very recently while in the area; plentiful car parking off the main road. The bar and dining areas lack ambience, but that was not really an issue for a weekday lunch. Service was good - fast and efficient, given that it was very busy, with a wedding party that day. The food was of high... More

We walked into the bar for New Years Day Pub lunch. We had not booked and the whole hotel was crammed full of people eating and drinking. No seats on quick glance. We ordered our drinks and something off the menu and the super efficient water asked us where we were sitting and we said all the tables are occupied... More

Popped in for lunch on the off chance. Difficult to initially find the car park as I arrived from the west (one has to drive past the hotel and no signs). The club sandwich was very good and arrived quickly. The chunky chips were also great.

I spent Christmas at this hotel with my mother. From the moment that we were met in the car park by the hotel manageress and another member of staff I know we were in good hands. The attention to detail and friendly concern and care from every member of staff was wonderful. On Christmas Eve as we ate a sumptuous... More

I had two nights this Christmas at this 300-year-old hotel in the Cotswolds and it was very pleasant and quiet. Good food and friendly staff too. My only complaint was that it was too hot - a winter duvet is not needed when there is central heating....

Over looking parts of the wonderful Rodborough Common, cattle passing by, is the historic and elegant Bear of Rodborough Hotel. We eat here regularly and t never disappoints. Latest was a family Sunday lunch, roast beef to die for. Great food at a very reasonable price, good wines and beer.

One is understandably a little cautious when booking accommodation over the net in unfamiliar areas and in foreign countries so when booking the Bear at Rodborough it was definitely an unknown quantity. My friends and I were absolutely delighted with the whole setup - from the decor, ambiance of the hotel and rooms , quality of fittings and overall cosines... More
