We recently met a group of friends here after a wedding the day before. Set in a beautiful market town with wonderful surroundings we quickly found The Golden Cross down a quaint side-street filled with lovely independent shops. The appearance of the front of the pub and it's interior definitely suggests a dive of a pub, but looks aren't everything... More

Stayed here a couple of days ago for 2 nights , cannot fault the place. Dog friendly , clean , tidy room .Good beer , fantastic food but to top all that , lovely friendly staff. Courteney was the type of staff member you would love to meet in any pub restaurant , friendly and courteous and Nick , he... More

I stayed at the Golden Cross this weekend (2nd Aug 2014) we had the family apartment. The room was way below acceptable standard. The carpet was dirty, there was dust everywhere and the fridge in the kitchen was riddled with mould. I would highly recommend staying elsewhere. for £120 per night I am very disappointed to have recieved such a... More

First things first, there isn't any parking at this location and it's not immediately clear on their website. If you stay here your best bet is probably parking at the brewery carpark at £1.50 a night, but you'll need to be back at your car for 8am. It's only a short walk away and you could drop off anyone who... More

Stayed over on saturday june 21st, friendly staff booked us in and took breakfast order (extra) showed us to room and pointed out car parking, all well and good so far. Room was OK but a bit on the grubby side, could really have done with a good hoovering and dusting, bed reasonably comfortable. There was a band on until... More

I have stayed here on a couple of occassions due to the great central location, but will avoid staying here again until the accommodation is refurbished to the same standard as the bar/restaurant areas. The rooms are tired, lacking any features, and could do with bringing up to date and having a good scrub. It wouldn't take a huge investment... More

I very much enjoyed my stay at The Golden Cross Inn, I stayed here for two nights. Upon arrival the staff were very welcoming and informative as to the arrangements and sorting breakfast. The room was adequately equipped and had a warm and comfortable bed. Breakfast was very nice, all cooked to order with fresh coffee. Location-wise, I couldn't have... More

We stumbled on this location one lunchtime. As total strangers to Cirencester we had no prior knowledge. We popped in for a lunch and both had home made mac and cheese with salad, garlic bread and a cuppa. We were about the first to arrive but it quickly gained numerous other customers. I noticed one couple with a baby who... More

Place was OK but could be better! Ran out of some food, pub was very noise until 1-00am so difficult to speak and room a bit tired and bathroom not particulary clean especially on the window ledge with empty shower gel bottle. biggest problem was breakfast , we were told it was served from 8-30am , got downstairs with some... If you enjoy a friendly atmosphere, the pub pooch walking around welcoming everyone who comes through the door- then drop in and enjoy a drink at The Golden Cross - the choice of wine was good and the variety of beers was exceptional. We didn't eat on this occasion - but upon checking the menu choices, it is well worth... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Just a short stroll from the town's historic market place, hidden up a picturesque mediaeval backstreet, you'll find The Golden Cross Inn.This early-18th Century coaching inn offers a warm welcome to all, from those seeking a thirst quenching pint of real ale to discerning diners looking for gourmet British cuisine, and of course to weary travellers looking for a bed for the night. While the building itself dates from the mid-17th Century, landlord Mark Lindesay and his dedicated team have recently transformed the pub into a welcoming hostelry offering contemporary standards of service, great food, good company and comfortable, well-equipped bedrooms, suites and apartments. The Golden Cross Inn offers the perfect combination of contemporary sophistication and traditional charm with its exposed beams, classic pub ambiance in its snug bar, combined with a light, airy dining area, all tended by friendly and attentive staff. ... more   less
