This is the best pub accomodation i have ever stayed in. Centrally situated comfortable warm room, with everything I needed. Single room is short on wardrobe space though- but other than that I couldn't fault it. Excellent value, enjoyable, relaxed stay. Very good food.

I booked the golden cross at short notice due to work commitments, what a very very pleasant place to stay, the staff although busy were attentive, kind and polite, I was made to feel like I was a regular visitor. All in it was a very enjoyable, relaxing stay and I will be returning with the only difference being that... More

My hubby and parents enjoyed an evening meal at the Golden Cross last Saturday evening. The staff were lovely, helpful and pleasant and the food was wonderful. There was a vast choice from the menu and specials board, I had the scallops and then the trio of pork which was excellent and very good value for money. Thoroughly enjoyed our... More

My visit was for a family lunch and how disappointing it was. Even though it was not particularly busy, it took 45 mins for the order to arrive. When it did, no salad dressing or anything else was offered and had to be requested from staff behind the bar. The beef pie came without any veg, the burger was on... More

The chef was charming and very helpful; sadly a Sunday roast without meat was oddly priced. When the issue was raised with the waitress/manager they felt nothing was amiss... The waitress insisted we had excellent customer service; sadly she forgot about getting a drinks order wrong ,forgetting a request for water and forgetting to explain the price of a no... More

We stopped for Sunday lunch following a walk, staff were friendly but we were served with the wrong drinks twice! The food was ok plenty of it however, the meat was a bit tough and the veg slightly undercooked! The owners dog, who is gorgeous, should not however be allowed to beg for food, scrounge under the tables and put... More

Visited yesterday on a whim with no reservation hoping to be able to get a good old fashioned trad Sunday lunch. We were greeted at the door by very friendly staff, and were shown to a table with no hesitation and drinks orders were taken super fast. Drinks arrived within minutes and the food order taken at the same time.... More

We recently met a group of friends here after a wedding the day before. Set in a beautiful market town with wonderful surroundings we quickly found The Golden Cross down a quaint side-street filled with lovely independent shops. The appearance of the front of the pub and it's interior definitely suggests a dive of a pub, but looks aren't everything... More

Stayed here a couple of days ago for 2 nights , cannot fault the place. Dog friendly , clean , tidy room .Good beer , fantastic food but to top all that , lovely friendly staff. Courteney was the type of staff member you would love to meet in any pub restaurant , friendly and courteous and Nick , he... More
