The room was quite good, with bay window looking out over Bishops Cleeve and across to Wales. The staff were pleasant and restaurant meal good. The breakfast menu was excellent. Overall, reasonable value at £90 for one night. more

We recently stayed at The Rising Sun as a central location for visiting some of the splendid National Trust properties in the area. The location of the Hotel high on Cleeve Hill is impressive, with magnificent views from all the public rooms over the Gloucestershire countryside and beyond to Wales, which were shared by many of the bedrooms, including the... more

We had the misfortune to stay in room 6, which is next door to the hotel's antique boiler. We were woken at six am to the very loud noise of the heating system, which didn't quieten down. I tried to find a member of staff to see if there was a bed somewhere - anywhere! - where we could sleep,... more

After 15 minutes of waiting somone finally appeared to show us our room. Told by Receptionist that food was being served all day - no such luck. Wedding party monopolising kitchen staff. Told could be... more

I've read the other reviews of this hotel and I'm wondering if they are about the same hotel. Granted, they let me have the family room for just the two of us, at the same rate as a double room but that was just about the only good point. Despite that, I wouldn't describe the hotel as "inexpensive." Well, the... more

Very comfortable, clean room. Very friendly and efficient staff and management. Great food and spectacular views. Award winning pub on the premises is a real bonus, serving real ales and wide range of meals. We take a lot of short breaks in England and this is one of the best hotels we've visited. more
