What a disappointment. The food is the only saving grace.,fresh ingredients well presented. We arrived at 12.30,expecting a pre lunch drink before our 1pm table reservation for 3 people. The reception staff said they would find a bar staff member for us. After a short wait a waitress arrived to serve us some drinks. We were the only people in. One... More

We stayed in one of the privilege rooms (just below suite) and the bed was queen size, we expected king size...apparently all beds are queen (not great if you're two fatties) to be fair the hotel gave us a small discount (as booking.com advertised king)...otherwise lovely hotel and would have stayed again

A very elegant hotel. Staff were highly professional and the food was great. The only area for improvement would be ensuring guest's room service finished food was not left outside the room for most of the day. Otherwise, great, we were very comfortable

Stayed for one night on our way further south. A hotel in true grand style. We had a premium room which was sumptuous in its furnishings and comfort, everything one could need was provided in the bathroom together with towels large enough to tuck all around your body - a definite plus! If I had to be picky then the... More

A lovely old, if somewhat faded, hotel in a super location in this lovely city. Met on arrival by helpful staff who really wanted to please. Room was an upgrade to privilage which means a very large room, four poster, sofa etc plus great coffee. Breakfast was included but try to get there early as there were few pastries, never... More

The restaurant opens for dinner at 6:30pm. We still had an hour to go but we couldn't wait. We went to the lounge bar instead. Except for the fact that the tables did not have tablecloths, we missed nothing. We could order food from the lounge bar menu or the restaurant menu. We chose the Beef Madras followed by Creme... The Mercure Queens has the lovliest, friendliest, most helpful staff. It's in a great location, the breakfast is very fine, and the bar has all you could desire. So will someone please PLEASE give it a makeover (whilst retaining the wonderously strange Crown on the first floor, and the chandeliers). It truly looks like no-one much cares what it looks... More

Stunning building; extremely convenient parking and near the city centre. Décor a little 'faded' but doesn't detract. We had a problem with our room which was not the fault of the hotel and the reception staff bent over backwards to sort it out. The service at reception and throughout the hotel was second to none - nothing was too much... More

We stumbled upon this hotel and were awe-struck by the building and its history. Room at the top at the front - very clean and very quiet and very comfortable except that the bathroom was a little pokey. We had a nice meal in the evening - the wine very expensive. The Polish waitress was charming and full of chat... More

An impromptu visit for afternoon tea turned into a real treat. Ismail was a wonderful waiter - very attentive and first class service so thanks to him. Tasty well filled sandwiches, dainty scones with lashings of cream and jam and miniature cakes topped off with unlimited tea. Great value and perfect for a Sunday afternoon with friends and family.
