Rye is not a cheap destination, This was our first visit and after looking at various hotels, we settled on this one as it had good reviews, a fair price and a tasty looking menu. After a long, delayed train journey we walked through the town to the Ship, and were greeted by a very friendly lady at the bar.... More

We stayed for one night. Staff really friendly, breakfast was a delight! Totally relaxing, the girl serving us was so helpful, breakfast (eggs royale) was delicious. Our room on the top floor was lovely, great to have tea making facilities in there. We were at the Ship for a wedding evening reception and the buffet food was amazing. Definitely recommended

Booked in for one night, but within moments of arriving, decided to stay for two. Loved the quirky decor, the great music in the bar, wonderfully friendly staff, great food (generous portions!), cheeky sausages for Alfie-the-dog, spotlessly clean and comfy room and new favourite Burt's Bees toiletries. Everything done with real care and charm. We've come away feeling thoroughly relaxed... More

We sat next to Lorraine (previous review) and Colin at the Scallop taster evening and had a lovely and extremely convivial evening with them and our fellow diners. Brilliant food accompanied by delicious wine with knowledgeable and entertaining snippets by Simon from the wine merchants. We have stayed at The Ship before and this was our 4th Scallop tasting. Always... More

We selected this hotel because it provided a tasting menu at the recent Rye Bay Scallop Festival. We wren'this disappointed. Champagne to start, followed by eight courses with matching wines, a real treat and beautifully cooked and presented. Breakfast was equally good, not just the usual eggs and bacon. This hotel is a quirky place decor wise, but a real... More

We pre booked for dinner. When we arrived we were placed in table by the front door on a very cold night. When we complained were 'found' a table upstairs where there was a lot of empty or soon to be empty tables. The food is very good quality and reasonably priced. I had a very nice chat with the... We called in for lunch as we were just passing. Amazing food, chicken and mushroom pies, my son had a burger. All freshly cooked, large portions and a reasonable price. Lovely atmosphere, gorgeous log fire. Friendly staff

We booked this place last minute and were luck to get their last room during a busy weekend of bonfire night celebrations. During our initial enquiries the manager warned us the room was small, and the shower small but powerful. This was fine so we went ahead and booked. Our room was indeed quite small, but it was well furnished,... More

This one-night stay was a birthday treat; we had previously thoroughly enjoyed dropping in for the great coffee and lovely interior design, and were excited about staying and eating here. We were made to feel very welcome when we checked in, and can only commend the staff for their friendly and accommodating approach. The room was cozy, with an inviting bed... More

Another funky Rye pub. Is Rye a mecca of cool pubs in amongst Mapp and Lucia? It serves Meantime beer in proper Meantime glasses. It's all modern retro chic and you can pretend you're one of those awfully cool people who has a Movember beard and works hunting film locations. The highlight was seeing two dogs more spoilt than my... More
