Do not be put off by some of the negative reviews about this hotel. We arrived much too early for our stay, but were given our room straight away, and managed to park outside free overnight. Theo and all of his staff were so welcoming, and nothing was too much trouble for them. We stayed in room 9, which was... More

A cold miserable day made memorable by the staff and food at the Ship! Service was quick without being fussy and the lovely waitress whose first shift we were experiencing was delightful! She made the lunchtime special and made no fuss when we asked for a glass of Pinot Noir and she brought a glass of Pinot Grigio! White v... More

We ate breakfast here on my partners birthday.. we booked a table as it was supposed to be a popular place, it was dead when we arrived.... So we thought we would get served pretty quickly... We ordered two breakfasts and two coffees, were brought the coffee and some water almost immediately, but then waited about 25 mins for the... More

I was really looking forward to a special breakfast at this Ship Inn to begin the celebrations for a special birthday. We booked via Open Table and our reservation was promptly confirmed. The place is on the grubby side of shabby chic. We both had a full English breakfast with coffee. The drinks arrived within 5 minutes but the food... More

We were looking for a very late healthy lunch as opposed to the fried varieties commonly available. It was starting to rain and we had the doggies so choice was limited to indoor venues; Rye has limited car access and parking and the hunger pangs were getting worse. We spotted the Ship Inn, it looks a little shabby but the... More

Sat 11th Oct. Its so scruffy, its not an INN, its a dump with a load of old thrown out furniture inside, the breakfast that I waited 25 mins for was two bits of smoked bacon fried egg with hard yoke and a piece of dried toast that broke like a biscuit and shot off the plate onto the filthy... Stayed for one night at the ship and thoroughly enjoyed it, was greeted by Theo who made us feel very welcome and showed ud to our room. Everything we needed and cosy with our very own rubber duck for the bath if needed..lol nice touch. Lovely big breakfast in the morning that sets you up for the day with very... More

Dined here in the evening, very disappointed by the limited menu but expected good quality for the expensive prices. It didn't happen, the portions were tiny, I had chicken and chips with coleslaw, 2 tiny bits arrived that made KFC portions look huge, the chips in a pretentious tin mug, coleslaw had heavy dosage of chilli, covered all other tastes... Beautiful looking & lovely setting. Downstairs seemed like a traditional inn with a lively atmosphere for Sunday lunch. We were led upstairs, seated on what could only be described as children's chairs at adult tables. We shuffled around while the waitress sourced some chairs that allowed us to reach the table. Upstairs there was no atmosphere & no roast lunches... More

The best bit of the ship are the staff. Super friendly, bubbly and so welcoming. The atmosphere is always lively and the food is yum. Perfect for breakfast too.. French toast with blueberries and maple syrup was a total winner. The playlists are amazing! Best local ever.
