This was our second stay at the Hope Anchor in Rye - the last was 33 years earlier in 1976. Over the past several years we have many times replayed our BBC DVD series Mapp & Lucia filmed on location in Rye. This along with the fact that my wife's family in the early 1960s owned a cottage on the... more

We discovered the hotel on the internet and we were so pleased with what we found. The reception from hotel staff was welcoming and we were made to feel special at every opportunity. Our room was cosy and spotlessly clean, food was to our liking and the atmosphere in the hotel was warm and friendly. more

Unbelievable

Really liked this place and its location in old Rye, overlooking the sea. Only downer was that our shower did not work. AT ALL. Responsive staff immediately gave us robes and slippers and key to room with working shower (albeit on another floor). Dinner and breakfast were both good, as was the service. Check out their midweek room, dinner and... more

Rye is a gorgeous little ancient town straight from a fairy tale book. The Hope Anchor Hotel has the best location in town at the end of a most charming little street and with great panorama views of the surrounding landscape. We stayed there for five days to sample some of the great golf courses in southeastern England, but we... more

Second time we have stayed at the Hope Anchor in Rye. The service at the hotel is excellent, as is the food. Hard to fault our stay with friends. The food in the restaurant isn't exactly cheap but it's great, especially for a special treat. The views of the river, marshes and castle in the distance is stunning. Perfect place... more

Great value for your money. The location is excellent. The cobblestone & small streets are quaint & memorable...though, in Rye, the cobblestones are more like just slippery stones. :-) Quite unique. We had the Castleview Room (though I was confirmed for the Captain's Cabin). It had a decent sized, very modern bathroom with tub. It was on the 2nd Floor... more

Very comfortable stay-good view from our room. Bathroom well stocked with goodies. Food in the restaurant was lovely with plenty to choose from for carnivores and vegetarians. Stayed one night using the mid-week deal that included 3 course meal, wine bed and breakfast. this was really good value and on top of that we were given a free drink each... more

We stayed one night at the Hope Anchor during our honeymoon. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. We had to leave very early the next morning to catch a flight from nearby Lydd Airport and needed to leave long before breakfast time. We asked if a continental breakfast could be provided earlier and it was. The breakfast was excellent... more
