Went with my two children age 2 and 3. We were very rudely told that we could not feed our children with our own food (snacks) and were not welcome to do so in the grounds as picnics not allowed. The "landlord will go mad" . We promptly left'. Terrible

Today we are at The Anchor Inn in Barcombe, a pub we have heard of but never visited. The setting is wonderful, right up against the river Ouse, and you can hire boat to take you up stream! The food is typical pub grub done well at reasonable prices with a decent selection of beers and a vast selection of... More

Went for a lovely Sunday roast only to be told that they only did sandwiches for people that hadn't booked. Tried to order cheesy chips but the chef apparently didn't have cheddar cheese?! The sticky toffee pudding was disgusting and they got the order wrong...basically pub grub at its most basic.

My companion and I visited the Anchor Inn on Saturday lunchtime. The weather was glorious for March (for any month come to think of it!). We ordered some food and a drink and sat in the gardens. It was peaceful and very relaxing. We only ordered chips with our drinks so can't really give an opinion on the food, although... More

We found the Anchor Inn completely by chance doing a cycle around the area. What a lovely location on the River Ouse. The pub itself had two small bar areas and a small dining room off to the side. The sun was streaming into the dining room, and along with the open fire made for a lovely Saturday lunch. Home... More

I was wary of eating here following some of the reviews. However we had a wonderful afternoon. We pre-booked our table and received a call to advise us that due to the high winds blowing down a power line that they had a power cut. They kept us updated and let us know that it had been fixed and power... More

Myself and a friend walked from Lewes to the Anchor Inn, Barcombe, for Sunday lunch - what a fantastic meal in a beautiful setting! I treated myself to one of the Sunday roasts on offer from a very wide selection of lunches - it was really well-presented, very large portions (but not in an off-putting way), really good quality produce... Everytime I go for lunch here, its great, Sunday lunch is a real treat, crispy roasties, lovely and varied veg and good meat. The welcome is always first class, the atmosphere friendly and the food tasty. The kids were a loud and played in and out and at no time did we feel any more than welcome. The decor is... More

Having found the car park at a popular National Trust property full yesterday (because of half-term school holidays I believe) Plan B was to go to Barcombe Mills and have lunch at the Anchor Inn Barcombe. Had lovely welcome from the landlady and great menu. Log fire burning which was a nice touch. Both our meals were served well and... More

Had my sisters wedding reception there on Saturday and it was fantastic! We had so much help setting up and the food and the service were wonderful. It really was a perfect place for such a event, the staff were really great and very friendly was a pleasure getting to know them. I have been told that sometimes there has... More
