I've lost count of the number of times my husband and I have stayed at Whitburn Lodge. It's a perfect example of how to run a B & B. Louise and Phil are wonderful hosts, the rooms are beautifully decorated and breakfast is fantastic (especially Phil's tomatoes). The location is fantastic too - only a short walk from the beach... This was our third time at Whitburn Lodge. The rooms and beds are very comfortable and the friendly service and breakfast top notch. The lodge is very well mainta9ined and clean as a whistle, located in a central location near the beach with off road parking. We had two rooms, rooms 2 and 4. Both excellent and as I said... More

I am not usually one to take the time to write a review, but after such a lovely experience I felt compelled to do so. The owners, Phil and louise made our stay very special with their attention to detail at every turn. Our room was extra comfortable and clean, with lovely touches everywhere, and I slept really well, even... More

Stayed here with my wife, did not sleep at all the matress on the bed is so hard/firm. An average basic b and b. Full english breakfast was average. Over priced Especialy when competitors are of the same price,a room with a view is worth every penny and way above their league for a boutique b and b.The owners do not... More

Management response:

Ouch – we did not see this one coming. We took your concerns seriously the first time and looked into this. We understand that you are unhappy with the outcome as you have placed this second very negative review regarding the same visit and issue. The Chambers Dictionary defines ‘avenge’ as ‘to take vengeance on someone on account of…’. We... More

We found a real gem here, the facilities were wonderful and Louise & Phil were SO kind and helpful, the room was spotless and well equipped for our stay. Centrally located we would thoroughly recommend this hotel. Having just read Sarahava's comments I wonder if they are discussing the same place, we also stayed in room 4 and found the... More

We loved everything about Whitburn Lodge, it's quirky room with the slipper bath, lovely owners who brought fresh coffee and tea to our room on arrival, great breakfasts and wonderful hospitality. We would like to say after reading a review this morning, we completely disagree with the comments made. It's a boutique b&b priced very reasonably for Brighton. We have... More

The room was very clean but very basic, small room.Bedroom 4 we stayed in has the most uncomfortable matress i have ever slept in,absolutley rock hard and could not sleep at all.Breakfast was average. I think at £90 this is very very overpriced.Especially as its half the price for a travelodge and u even have a decent bed there. Even... More

Management response:

A response from perplexed owners. We were very surprised to receive such an angry sounding review, not the usual response we have from our guests. We are as we said when you raised your issue with the bed very sorry that you had an uncomfortable night. As we explained to Sarah our beds are fairly new. When they were newly... More

Whitburn Lodge was highly recommended by a friend who stays there regularly. With good reason. Our hosts, Phil and Louise, are among the most welcoming and friendly I have ever encountered. We had a wonderful time chatting with them, learning about Brighton. The rooms are beautifully appointed with high-quality linens and thoughtful touches like tea, cookies, and little sweet treats... We have just come back from a long weekend staying at Whitburn Lodge. The B&B is absolutely lovely, we stayed in room 1 and it was decorated beautifully, with very comfortable bed and pillows and all the little extras like tea and coffee facilities and biscuits. Everything was cleaned perfectly. Louise and Phil were extremely welcoming and friendly. The breakfast... More
