Stayed 3 days, each day breakfast was a complete shambles. Had to get cups cutlery etc... every day. Food tepid / cold. Toaster did not work correctly. Room was small and dated, no safe / fridge or even a drawer ! This was a 4 star hotel. On last night noise all night outside our room until 5am. Additional charge... More

Booked through last minute.com as a 4 star hotel. This is NOT a 4 star. Downstairs fine. Location great. Rooms terrible, worse than travel lodge! Dirty ripped net curtains, dirty carpet. Basically just old. Fly in the room. Reception staff great very helpful.

Room was nice, and had everything you needed. Nothing special or amazing but everything you want for a cheapish priced room. Good value for money. My friends and I also tried the burgers at the bar. The meat on the burgers was the biggest i've had anywhere which was a real WOW as we expected bog standard hotel food. I... More

Teddy1212, The team and I would like to thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. The hotel launched its new menu in Nov 2014 and to date the feedback has been very positive; there are many exciting options to try from and in the next few months we shall be tempting you with new dishes... This hotel should be great. Fab location, great architecture and nice staff but it just lacks any character or charm. The Mercure identikit 'interior design' is bland without the reassuring uniformity of say a Premier Inn and jars horribly with the building particularly in the public areas. The cavernous and potentially imposing entrance halls looks like an NHS waiting room... More

The rooms were lovely and clean, spacious and airy with a lovely view of the sea . The dining room was busy at times but the staff cleared and reset tables so quickly seating wasn't a problem. All the staff were friendly and helped with every query and problem we had. In need of a little bit of general maintenance.... More

I know we stayed on Valentines night but nearly £200 for a "Classic Double" in this hotel is daylight robbery. The room was small with no easy chairs and only a small window looking out onto a noisy backstreet. The bed was too hard and the room and the bathroom could do with redecorating. At breakfast the following morning the... More

Stayed for 3 nights. On checking in a lovely lady checked us in, who worked there last year too. When I returned later to get the 2nd key to work I was served by a slightly Chinese looking young lady with shour dark hair who didn't even lift her head to speak to me, the difference was unbelievable. This was... More

This Grade 2 listed building has definitely seen better days and is in urgent need of a major refurb. If you look at the light colour of the carpet as it meets the reception desk and compare it with the very dark colour in the middle of the room you'll soon get the idea. The corridors creak, there are bumps... More

Firstly, I feel terribly sorry for the staff having to defend the indefensible. My room in itself would have been adequate had it been in good repair. The windows wouldn't close and in the middle of a storm in February the draft was like a force 10 gale. The handyman did his best with some pipe lagging and duct tape... More

One thing you learn if you travel far and often is some hotel lingo. Room type is a fine example. 'Classic Double' can mean a whole host of things, but in general I've found it's the word used to describe those rooms that you'd only book if you had to go somewhere and every other hotel and room in the...
