Going on good reviews from another site, We booked for Fathers Day, and took a lovely drive up to Alfriston. Arrived to find place virtually empty at 1.30pm. Felt very serious with no buzz, people talking in whispers. Not a good start. Really fancied a good roast dinner so ordered the pork, which arrived in minutes. Presentation boring, potatoes undercooked... more

We booked a twin room (the person taking the booking acknowledged this request at the time). On arrival we were told they didn't have - and had never had - twin rooms. Not a good start. Otherwise a cheery welcome, and the ambience in the downstairs bar is certainly convivial. But the noise carries upstairs to the room we were... more

We spent a fun weekend in Alfriston with a group of friends attending the Dickensian weekend. The Inn is in the centre of the town and convenient for the walks and the shops. Four couples from our group stayed at the Inn. There is no parking attached to the inn, so you have to carry luggage from the car parks.... more

Four of us booked two rooms at the George which is a lovely old building. The rooms were okay but in no way comensurate with the pricing and contained no antiques as promised. The bathrooms were stocked with the cheapest super market brands and there were signs of neglect like an empty cookie jar. As we settled in during the... more

I have stayed in the George about half a dozen times over the last 3 years and absolutely love it. It is an Olde Worlde English Inn straight from central casting, right in the middle of a picture perfect village in the South Downs. The George is a pub with rooms, rather than a full service hotel, but is very... more

The George Inn is a lovely atmospheric 15th century inn. We had a lovely time. The staff were very friendly and helpful, The bar is welcoming with a roaring log fire. Beer and wine are good and they do a very good mulled wine ( lovely for cold winter evenings) The food is exellent. We had moules mariniere, braised knuckle... more

Decided to try the George as we attended a Murder Mystery at Deans Place. Looked super on the website and booked the Sir John Derring room. Very cold and heated towel rail wasn't working in bathroom, suspicious plastic containers under valves on radiators ready for leaks! Found a radiator key in drawer so hubby bled the radiator and hey presto... more

We had booked the George for a weekend away for four of us stressed London ladies looking forward to walking and relaxing. The inn is wonderfully historical and we were happy with our comfortable rooms - particularly the Red Room with its 6ft wide bed. Beware the inn has no twin rooms. The first night we opted to eat in... more

My husband and I stayed here for the night last weekend and we couldn't have made a better choice. We decided on the George Inn as it was pet-friendly and we had our dog with us for a weekend of walking. From the moment we entered the pub we were made to feel so welcome and relaxed. We checked into... more
