First impression on arrival was a fantastic looking hotel in an idyllic village conveniently located on the South Downs way. We found the food good at breakfast and dinner srved by helpful and polite staff. Our room (4) was in the "old" block and was well maintaine, clean an an adequate size. The double bed was a bit on the... More

Due to the price you would have expected something quite good, how wrong. Room was really overpriced for what was a musty old room with a mattress that was well past it's sell by date, feeling each spring was not good. We had a suite as 3 children, in the end the put me up beds for them were so... More

This lovely old fashioned inn was a great place to spend a night. Clean, comfortable and with helpful obliging staff. Only downside, bar closed early and as residents we could not get a drink after 10.50 pm! Breakfast was excellent and we had very good parking facilities. Will definitely stay there again.

We stayed for one night and were very happy with the service and room in the old part of the hotel. It is a 3 star hotel and delivers value as you would expect at that level. Staff could not have been pleasanter or more helpful. The room was a little bit tired but clean and had space to sit... More

Stayed here recently as a family group and were very impressed by the attitude of the staff. The food was below par for some of the prices and the rooms could do with a little more love - they seem quite tired and outdated.

Stayed for one night recently. The rooms allocated overlooked the car park and guests leaving or smoking outside were very noisy until midnight, after which it quiet ended. The rooms were jaded and are in need of a redec. The bathroom is also due for a makeover and it was difficult to shut off the shower. The breakfast was adequate... More

We booked 2 double rooms here on a last stop over night on the South Downs Walk. Rooms were ok nothing special and evening meal about the same! Cant fault the location ( south downs way path runs right at the side of the hotel) and fair to say its a building with great character. Reception staff also seemed friendly.... More

Enjoyable stay in a friendly hotel in the middle of Alfriston. Food tasty, room comfortable, albeit not a great view, over car parking area. Lots of walkers using it as a stopover point. Would happily recommend to others. Staff very helpful.

This was the worst stay of our hike across the South Downs. Showers dribbled, toilet didn't flush, disclaimers were pasted all over the place - one warned of scalding shower, but neglected to say that there was NO cold water, hence the scalding shower. Our breakfast was laid on a disposable paper table cloth which had been re-used; we were... More

Myself and partner stayed at the Star Inn last weekend and was very pleased with our stay. The location was perfect and the accommodation was very clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. There was a wide variety for breakfast and our beef dish was spot on. We will be staying again!
