Came here tonight with My Aunty & Uncle. Lovely place. Menu was varied and very nice. I had the chicken wrapped in parma ham and stuffed with chorizo. It was delicious and full of flavour. I live in Preston, Lancashire and it's a real shame I don't live closer. I would definitely recommend it.

Came here with sister and brother-in-law for two day cycle and walking break. The little barn conversions, with their individual patios and lovely fixtures and fitting, are superb. The beds are so comfortable and it is great having the pub across the way for breakfast and also evening meal if you want it. We ate there both nights and couldn't... More

We wanted to try the Berney again given the new management. Not an easy place to make a go of and previous experience has been very mixed under the various management regimes so we were hoping that it would make the list of places worth a visit on the river. The varying reviews on here have pause for thought but... More

Lovely place to stay, breakfast cooked to your order and wonderful individual machine coffee, room was very spacious and everything to top standard, fluffy towels, huge shower, blackout curtains. Sue and Phil were the perfect hosts, even putting me in touch with the local historian to help with my family history research. New supplier's wi-fi worked very well. Would definitely... More

Sue and Phil made us most welcome in this beautiful Inn in a small village. Food was excellent, garden was immaculate and Sue even knew latin names of plants I asked about. She even took a photo and phoned the nursery to find more information about a certain plant. We stayed in "The Stables" . Very nice room, no noise... More

Spent a night with our 5 week old son on way back from wedding. Great accommodation, hospitality and food. Lovely rural location. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful and we even allowed extra time in the room to get sorted which was an enormous help with our explosion of baby stuff! Well worth a visit.

What can be better than lunch outside on a warm late spring day in a lovely Norfolk pub. The food was excellent, the ervice good and the pint of Ghost Ship a delight. Reasonable prices and a beautiful setting.

Today I visited the Berney arms for the first time after recommendation from a friend. It was bank holiday Monday at 3pm and there was no hot food being served only sandwiches which I was slightly disappointed with. I have. 7 month old baby and there was only 1 highchair which was being used by another family, after we had... More

We stayed here in early April and had a great time from beginning to end! The room was huge and beautifully clean and welcoming - with a perfect little fold out bed for my daughter. Sue and Phil (the owners) were really great and full of knowledge and suggestions of places to visit. We had dinner in the restaurant on... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Set in the very quiet village, almost a hamlet, of Barton Bendish, between Downham Market & Swaffham, is The Berney Arms , previously known as The Spread Eagle under different ownership. The pub was closed in March of 2010 and reopened in August of 2010. We have 5 luxurious rooms all refurbished in 2013 all are en-suite, with either Super-king of King sized beds, individual patios with bright tables & chairs. There is a bar, restaurant and very spacious garden also with bright benches. The bar & restaurant serve food all day every day, and specialise in traditional afternoon teas. The menu is centered around local seasonal produce, such as venison from the Barton estate, and asparagus from a mile away, also proper free range eggs from the next village. We look forward to welcoming you. ... more   less
