Just back from 2 nights at Acton Field - proper, back to basics camping. There are no electric hook-ups and owner only takes cash but at just £28 for us, our pitch and the car the value for money is amazing! The proprietor pops round to collect payments each morning and in high season a grocers van comes round too.... More

Easy to find campsite in undulating field that can get pretty crowded (ie full) on a sunny bank holiday. Two showers for men and two for ladies and two sinks for washing up for a couple of hundred campers can get pretty tight, so you must pick your moment carefully otherwise the queue will be long. Cheerful farmer/owner/rent collector who... More

I've stayed here twice over two years in August. It's a busy site but feels well run. The ground is hilly and a bit stony in places so I would bring some hard ground tent pegs as back up. Lot's of kids running around which is how it's meant to be. We camp as a group of friends with different... More

I was amazed at some of the negative reviews of this campsite. It by far one of my favourite campsites so much so we came back three weeks after our first visit. The site is a beautiful rolling meadow which is more rolling than bumpy. There is a loads of room between pitches (there rule is 6m or more) with... More

The website makes this camp site look great however it's very bumpy - there are very few flat areas to pitch tents so it's likely you'll have to make do with a slope! Upon arrival we immediately turned around and searched for another camp site but unfortunately they were all fully booked. Wasn't impressed with the lukewarm showers (that cost... More

If you want a basic, stick your tent up in a field campsite this is for you. There are little outcrops to pitch on and little valleys, it's great and the views over swanage are first rate, as are the stars at night. Facilities again basic but adequate, clean with a few resident spiders here and there but that's camping... More

we decided to visit Dorset for 3 nights camping, checked various campsites online and Acton Field sounded great. we phoned to make sure sure we had a pitch, confirmed that there was a no noise policy, as we have a 2yr and 4yr old. all good was the answer and we made the 5hr journey to Dorset. as we approached... Been here a few times before but not for many years and not in peak season. We camped with a hike tent for two nights a Saturday & Sunday. We had booked in advance but i'm not sure if that actually counted for anything. On arrival we were told that it was busy but just to find a spot, luckily... More

I've just come back from a short week break here. This was our annual camping met where 10 families go camping together. The site is basic but ideally located just on the outskirts of Swanage with a great view over the bay. Good walking routes are easily accessed. The site is very uneven and for a large group like ours,... More

This is a field. With tents. And a fabulous view over Swanage. It very basic but the shower and wash area are clean and functional. However, when the week end crowds descend, it becomes horribly crowded, people pitch anywhere and the spartan facilities are not enough.
