I've stayed here a number of times over the years and it used to be reasonable value for money but it is now tired, run down and overpriced and the staff seem to have stopped caring. It's stiflingly hot in the rooms and many of the windows don't open. Try the Grand or the Pines instead. more

If you like a place with interesting features this is the place to stay in Swanage. The building is comfortable, even in cold snowy February. However it retains its original features which means each room is full of interest. The large original window frames and ornate ceiling in the dining room are examples of this. There are parts of the... more

The web site leads you to believe you are staying in the grandure of the main house but in reality you are staying in an overpriced travel lodge round the back, dont believe the break prices because dinner is not included so its £108 per night for bed and breakfast out of season . more

We have just returned from a 1 night Saturday stay at the Purbeck and we find it difficult to give the hotel anything but praise . Maybe it was because the hotel was quiet at a slow time of the year but we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves . I contacted the hotel the day before we were due to arrive to... more

We booked one night as the flat we usually use for Swanage was unavailable. This is without doubt the worst Hotel we have ever stayed in. This Grand Victorian building is very tired and along with the numerous extensions is suffering severe neglect. Our room was just ok but with unopenable windows and a grubby sink which only had one... more

We stayed for two nights in November 08 and on balance we’d say it was OK – ie only OK. However hotels in and around Swanage are so dire that Purbeck House is, in our view, distinctly better than average. The choice of hotels is very limited if you’re looking for something of some size and ambitions at class –... more

We booked this hotel for a special wedding anniversary and paid extra for an upgrade to a 'special room'. The 'special room' was shabby , the windows so dirty you couldn't see out of them and the decor was dated beyond belief. Worst of all though, was the food; we complained about the lack of fresh vegetables, there was no... more

This was our third visit to this lovely hotel, we stayed here for four nights in early september. Its as good as ever, we had booked for dinner, and were not disappointed, everything was excellent, very tasty, and portions were just enough. We had booked a superior suite in the louisa lodge, the room was lovely, with fantastic views across... more

A tinkle awoke me from my slumber,!!! Fast asleep in Louisa Lodge,(a separate building from the main Purbeck House Hotel, built in the Scottish Baronial style...with a tentative connection to Thomas Hardy,.......) I digress,at about 3am,the sound of a person in the toilet, not ours!,we were in bed,I checked and HE was too,!!! but from the room next door, the walls must be... more
