We arrived at the hotel on Sunday afternoon for a one night stay. We were told that the boilers supporting the swimming pool were not working and therefore could not use the pool. Fair enough these things happen and the superior room we booked was basically OK. Our problem started at dinner - we waited nearly 35 mins for our... more

Do not be misled - the only reason that this appears as the No 1 hotel in Shaftesbury is that it is the ONLY hotel in Shaftesbury. We were visiting relatives and regret making the decision to stay overnight at this hotel. The entire hotel is unloved, unkempt and desperately dated. The only positive for this hotel is that the... more

We stayed in the hotel as we had a wedding to go to in the local area. It's the most money I have ever spent on a stay at a hotel anywhere in the world so I was expecting very high standards, especially as this is part of the Best Western chain. The hotel is in dire need of a... more

Thankfully we only stayed one night at this hotel. We wanted a superior room but were told that as we had our dog with us and dogs weren’t allowed in superior rooms, we would be allocated a standard room. This was reasonable enough. When we arrived at the hotel it looked rather shabby and unkempt from the outside, with peeling... more

This hotel has not been well maintained over the years and it shows. With shabby rooms and a swimming pool that it falling apart tile by tile, it is hard to see how it warrants a 3 star rating and the relatively expensive prices. The windows in our room were rotten and drafty plus our toilet would not clear properly,... more

We had a great stay and will certainly go back again. Yes the building needs a refurb and the pool area is not all that luxurious but the bar and restaurant makes up for it. The service was the best we have ever experianced with the waitress taking time out to talk to us and give recommendations.. The meal was... more

Room was not ready when we arrived - at the appointed check-in time. Not great as we had only 30 minutes to get ready for a wedding! Reception let us into our unmade room, and made it up after we'd left for the wedding - not ideal, by any means, but it worked. Decor slightly jaded 80s throughout, but room... more

Not much to say about this hotel. We only stayed 1 night following a friends wedding so can really only comment on the rooms. We booked a double and a single. Both were perfectly adequate and comfortable without having any features which are worthy of special comment. It is an old building but has been pretty well maintained and had... more

We had an overnight stay at the Royal Chase and booked it on the basis of it being a Best Western, which should have guaranteed a certain standard. £129 for the night B&B is not that cheap an option (should have been more - see below), but the hotel did not meet the standard expected for this price, although it... more

I stayed at the Royal (I would doubt that any royalty would ever stay here.) during the second week of November and found the whole experience a little strange. I arrived and found a grand entrance to the hotel blocked with a locked door only to discover that you needed to walk round to a side entrance. The whole hotel... more
