We were not due to arrive until midnight so no dinner, but we phoned ahead on the way down from London and asked for some cheese & wine which was willing accommodated and in our room upon arrival. We received a warm welcome and the room was very clean and a good size. Hotel was easy to find and would... More

Two nights staying in this lovely retreat, only a short drive from Dorchester, proved to be a great tonic. The food that chef/owner Jamie Jones produces really is a triumph, but without the superb management and hosting of his wife, Ariane, and the support of the well trained and courteous staff this "restaurant with rooms" would not have been awarded... We ate here a couple of years ago and this time we stayed as well. The food is without any doubt excellent and the owners defiantly deserve their very high rating. The service provided is all you would ever hope for. The concern relates to the lounge area and accommodation which is beginning to look just a little tired.

We have just had our Wedding Reception at Yalbury Cottage. We booked all eight rooms and twenty of us enjoyed the evening meal(as a wedding supper) Everything was amazing, the food was out of this world, the staff couldn't do enough to make our day extra special. The rooms were excellent with everything you could want in them, and the... More

I have reviewed this hotel before but felt the need to Congratulate to the Yalbury Cottage for winning the best Small Hotel in the Daily Mail today (4th Oct 2014), it is so well deserved. From the moment you arrive at the hotel you feel at home, its so friendly and well cared for, the food is exquisite, dinner and... More

Right across the road from Thomas Hardy´s cottage, Ariane and Jamie run this quaint cottage. Be aware when you are tall, you might bump your head! Both Ariane and Jamie have been in the hostelry business for a while it seems, she as the manager, he as the gourmet.(=cook) Both have been living abroad for this purpose. They seem a... More

Warm welcome from Jim on arrival. Lovely cosy cottage set in a quiet country lane with view of green prairie from room's window. It has a well design garden where you can seat and relax after a full day adventure. Room is bright and clean, well equipped with only drawback of weak shower. Evening meal and breakfast is exceptional quality,... More

This Restaurant with rooms is set in a country location. The Food is excellent as is the accommodation. Our room was well appointed and very comfortable. Dinner begins with drinks in the lounge before going into the heavily beamed dinning room. As with the evening meal the breakfast was first class with an excellent choice. We look forward to returning.

Enjoyed a nice meal here, quiet setting in Hardy country and well worth a visit. Will definitely return dont think you can say fairer than that. They also have rooms although we didnt stay. Trip Advisor wants me to write 200 characters so now I am just waffling!

Not much we can add to the previous glowing reviews of this place. Peaceful is probably the first word one thinks of when entering (and leaving) this little Hamlet a few miles from Dorchester. The cottage (it's actually a bit bigger than a cottage) is beautifully presented and the hosts are most welcoming. Our room was surprisingly spacious, spotlessly clean... More
