Came upon the Greyhound by chance, sadly it was closed that evening but decided to go back with friends the following day. Wonderful food, well worth the trip back. Would go again. The slow roast belly pork was wonderful!

Six of us booked for dinner on Good Friday evening. Our table was in a very crowded main bar area where a quiz night was being held (no mention of this when we booked) and not in the restaurant which remained empty all night for some strange reason. We had a vase of Daffodils on the table which would have... More

On a recent Dorset cottage holiday we lived 6 minutes from the Greyhound It's a beautiful village with a great local. Friendly owners and staff. Good beer. Interesting wine list. We had 2 dinners. 1 Sunday lunch and 1 sandwich lunch. Varied from very good to truly excellent. Solid portions Varied menu. Was a highlight of the holiday.

.....We were warmly greeted on a damp Saturday afternoon. The Inn was warm and welcoming in atmosphere, the staff were attentive and food was served promptly. We had a lovely warm welcome from Annabel and Theresa and team. All four of us had the salmon main course with a curried type sauce, rice and onion Bahji. The salmon was moist... More

Stayed for one night with a group of friends, well looked after with good food, wine and service. Well appointed clean and fresh room with everything we needed, loved the idea that you could borrow wellies if you needed them!

Excellent Sunday Lunch. We had half shoulder of slow roasted lamb with all the trimmings for two; homemade (jus) gravy and mint sauce. For sweet; chocolate fondant (the real deal) with homemade custard.

Heartily agree with Juvencus. We stayed over New Year - welcome was ambiguous, food dreadful, venison drowned in overpowering sauce and mash cold. We had to give our choices online and they got them wrong TWICE leaving us with the vague impression it was somehow our fault. We sat in a gale of staff activity feeling distinctly in the way.... What has happened to this lovely village pub? It once was excellent, the staff and service were excellent and the food was wonderful and the glasses were clean!! I cannot believe that Fiona Phillips still owns this once delightful inn. Last Sunday was a disgrace. We booked a table in the Restaurant and found dirty glasses, lack of cutlery, indifferent... First of all, this Inn is nowhere near Dorchester itself, so do not be fooled by the address. You have to travel out of Dorchester along the Yeovil road and then turn off along a very windy but picturesque country road into the charming village of Sydling St Nicholas. We were a group of four ladies and were warmly welcomed. We... More
