Viewing this hotel from the outside is deceptive to say the least. Upon entering into the bar area changed our opinions immediately even more so when entering our room. The exterior looks tired and was definitely a hidden gem. Our room was plainly decorated with all the amenities you needed to make your stay pleasant,TV,Wi fi,hair dryer (hidden in a... More

The room had a lovely view of the sea....that is my only positive. The doors were ridiculous heavy with silly handles which meant by the time you managed to open them a draft from the poorly fitted windows blew it shut leaving a loud echoing slam. The dining area, a pub bar, stunk of dogs and the carpet was filthy... More

This was the first hotel we stayed at in England. The staff were very friendly, the room was comfortable and the breakfast which was included was fantastic. Just accross the road from the sea it was a pleasant place to stay at a reasonable rate.

We have just returned from spending 4 nights here and had a great time. The hotel is tired in places but is currently undergoing improvements. The manager Justin and his team work well as jacks of all trades, and master of most, (one day we came across someone cleaning the carpet and was later served breakfast by her and finally... More

Ok so it's tired and needs some TLC but the place is convenient for whee we were staying again...and it's a lovely seafront location. Good selection of wine. Outside area is good Welcomes dogs which we like Was busy which says a lot. Would come back. Wish the owners would give the bar another lick of paint but we have... More

First the positive, our room was great we had two windows, one overlooking the park to the side and one facing the beach. The bed was very comfortable and the furniture seemed to have been recently replaced. The windows need changing as two of the handles were snapped off and there seemed to be tissue stuffed into the corner of... More

Thankyou for taking the time to leave your feedback. The Commodore is under a rolling refurbishment scheme at the moment where we are constantly improving areas when and where we can. Works on the Bar floor begin next week, which are long overdue More

we took elderly parents for a saturday lunch. I did know the place was a bit shabby as we live locally and had a drink here previously. However the location is great with lovely picture windows overlooking Bournemouth bay so thought we would give it a try. My mother and I both ordered smoked mackerel salad which you could have... Myself and 4 friends arrived at the hotel to an empty reception desk. We waited a long time before another guest informed us that the manager was in the bar. We alerted him to our arrival, but instead of apologising he was grumpy and rude. The breakfast we recieved was HORRENDOUS. Most of us ordered Eggs Benedict/ Eggs Royale. What... More

Staff hard working and friendly, apart from the manager. Food not great, very poor quality ingredients especially the fruit for breakfast. On suite plumbing very noisy and awful smell from the sink. Decor is 1970s seaside chic, but being dog friendly one can see why. On the plus, perfect location great views and all staff (apart from one) were lovely.... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Commodore Hotel Southbourne near Bournemouth is on the Dorset cliff tops at Southbourne adjacent to the cliff lifts and Fisherman's Walk with easy access from the A31 and A338. The spectacular views across Poole bay take in Swanage to the West and Hengistbury Head and the Isle of Wight to the East. The Commodores location, close to the New Forest, and Bournemouth town centre, makes it an ideal base from which to explore Hampshire and Dorset. The Commodore was built in 1928 and was originally called Crawford's Tea Rooms. In the war it was used to house serving American airmen. In the early 50's an extension was added and it became Crawford's Bar and Hotel. Not long after that, it became The Commodore Hotel. A very popular holiday location. There is limited car parking provided by the hotel but ample on-street car parking within a few minutes walk. ... more   less
