The hotel was clean with generally high standards and I would have been very pleased with it as a two or even three star hotel. They could pay a little more attention to how they cook breakfast like using ripe tomatoes rather than unripe ones which are still rock hard under the top eigth of an inch when grilled. Frying... more

We are beginning to think that although tripadvisor is a very useful site, I use it myself a lot, it is also a vehicle for unreasonable comments. The room this guest stayed inhasanopeningwindow to the right hand side of the door opening onto the garden. We wouldn't dream of letting rooms with no opening windows! Our establishment is 600 years...

We were made very welcome from the moment we stepped through the door. The room was spotless, furnished in a cosy cottage style, with a very comfortable bed and chairs. A spacious modern shower room and digital television provided the 21st century touch. There is a very good choice for breakfast and the quality is superb. The Old Forge is... more

The Old Forge was an oasis after a 15 hours travel by plane and train. People were most supportive even before actually meeting with us. The service was extended beyond the price paid, in the sense that besides eeverything being so relaxing and well taken care of, they actually indicated several solution to accommodation issues due to their not having... more

Stayed last year with our two young children. Could only get the family room this time, had cottage last time. Kids loved the spa bath in the bathroom. Room has king bed and two singles so plenty of room - love roof terrace. This is a unique place. It's obviously a very old building so may not suit you if you... more

We chose the Old Forge in Totnes because it looked like a quaint old building that had been developed into a comfortable BnB. The man who greeted us when we arrived was civil but was not a friendly character (which you would expect in a quaint BnB). Reading the mixed bag of other reviews, and knowing that 2 couples run... more

I would like to correct the author of this review. There is only one couple who run The Old Forge, myself and my husband. You must have met the resident ghosts! This building is 600years old and the family room is the original travelling magistrates court. It has a king size, and two single beds.Spa bath en-suite, roof terrace and...

The Old Forge is a well located guest house in a historic building in the attractive town of Totnes. The communal areas of the hotel were clean and comfortable (although I'm not quite sure about having a hot tub in the conservatory/breakfast room!). Breakfast was exceptionally good and served with a smile. The rooms we had were very small indeed... more

In response to this review, the hot tub in the conservatory is never used during breakfast time and the conservatory is actually separate from the dining room anyway. We have placed a couple of dining tables in there so that guests can eat breakfast or have afternoon coffee overlooking the garden - many regulars enjoy doing this. We feel the...

Not a great welcome, shown to room with not a word, room small ,needed refurbishment a high pitched hum from a cupboard next door. Charged for a king size room but only the bed was K size ,a shame as the building was very nice as was the breakfast. more

Our family party of nine, including a young child stayed for three nights over the Easter weekend. We had four rooms, including one family room. Although two of the rooms were on the small side, they were all spotlessly clean and cosy. The staff were welcoming and hospitable, and although we ate out each evening, the breakfast was brilliant, served... more

We stayed here over easter 2009 with our 20 month old son, both sets parents and sister and partner for a family break. I must admit after some of the comments below I was anxious, but once we arrived it was obvious these comments were harsh to say the least. All 3 cars were comfortably parked in the car park... more

Just packed to leave The Old Forge and taking advantage of their wi-fi. Came to Totnes for a wedding. Arrived on Friday and booked the cottage suite. We are 2 grown ups with a 3 and 6 year old. Felt we had to write a review as the previous one is so negative and we were worried about what to... more
