I enjoyed my stay and this hotel, Brian was a lovely chap and very helpful. I can however see why people are making a few bad reviews, but 1 star is totally underselling this place in my opinion. I personally didn't see the water damage that people were talking about in reception. Perhaps its been fixed. Anyways the room was... More

An ideally located central Torquay hotel. We were given the garden room which offered a separate entrance and patio/garden. The room was huge and had two beds (one double/one single). The price was reasonable considering it included a hearty breakfast and parking. Having read the early reviews I cannot agree re noise from the road. Our room was on the... More

Not as advertised. Totally unsuitable for anyone with mobility difficulties or allergies to dogs. Didn't stay, went elsewhere, but still had to pay for first night. Person who greeted us didn't seem to know if he had rooms for us or not despite us having booked.

A great location! So many pubs and restaurants within an easy walk and plenty of places to drive and see during the day! Agree with comments about just needing to sort the entrance area out after whatever flooding has happened as this is the only thing that we can think of that made a difference on first impressions. Hotel manager... More

Great room with views over the bay and to Brixham from the veranda. Plenty of tea/ coffee and a chocolate each day was a nice touch. Comfortable bed and good bedding. The hall needs re-vamping due to flood, but that will be remedied in the close season. Decent breakfast, plenty of choice and friendly service. For us it was in... More

When we arrived we thought the hotel was shut due to the view through the locked glass door. The reception area looked like it hadn't been used for some time and the walls were grimy with mouldy pictures. We can except that there was a leak but to leave but to leave the mouldy pictures on the wall was totally... More

Brian gave a warm welcome ,and was helpful about where to eat. The hole in the wall pub great ale and food tthank you. I would say just look at the reviews they all hold merrit and its a shame that Brian does not seem to accept the comments. I understand they can be taken as personal but they are... More

We were expecting much worse to be honest after reading other reviews re cleanliness etc. The room was actually quite clean and we were initially pleasantly surprised. However, it's just little things that really make you feel ripped off. The reception area is pretty foul after a 'flood' earlier in the year. Apparently the owner is waiting until winter to... More

The reception area is to be redecorated at the close of season - as in comon practice with all other hotels. There is never used laundry stored in the hotels walkways, except maybe during housekeeping work periods. However, used laundry is sometimes stored in the reception porch awaiting collection as it can be collected anytime 24 hours. I am sure... More

The guest was telephoned approximately a week before arrival advising him of a shower problem in the room allacated to him. I also said that he would be able to have use of a shower in another room as all other showers in the hotel were and are working perfectly. When I spoke to the guest to advise him of... More

On entering there is mould all over the walls the soap dispenser in the room was hanging off the shower head kept hanging down so you had to hold it to get any water, uncomfortable bed and lounge/bar closed all weekend the bathroom had toothpaste splatters over the wall and it was very expensive we would not recommend this place... The main bone of contention seems to be the state of the reception area due to past water damage. The rest of the hotel is uneffected. I have stated in previous reviews that the area is to be completely redecorated at the earliest possible opportunity. There was no armed policeman guarding the entrance to the lounge/bar area, which incedently is... More
