Was a bit aprehensive about staying at the hotel after reading some of the reviews. Should not have worried!!! Travelled with my husband and 2 children aged 9 and 11, even though it was their Easter Holidays, kids in Devon where still at school, so there was no dedicated over 9s club. However, there was plenty for them both to... more

We stayed in the hotel Easter week. It wasn't to busy and got to use the pool, steam room, jacussi and sauna without any trouble. The hotel is part of a linked group of 4 hotels you can wander through all four choosing which type of entertainment you want, it's mainly dodgy caberet or ballroom dancing. We had half board,... more

Derwent Hotel, Torquay If you stay here, be aware that the norovirus is running through the hotel, the hotel is not warning you before you turn up. The staff are walking around with masks over their faces, and you will inevitably end up feeling like you are living in an episode of some sci fi series! Half of our party... more

We did have a problem with a 24 hour sickness bug brought into the hotel by a group of bowlers on 24th February. We closed the Hotel for 3 days to completely get rid of the problem, which was successful, and since the closure we have had no further problem. This was an airborne virus, confirmed by the EHO, and...

We were also there at the weekend mentioned by a previous reviewer, we know it was the same weekend, as we recalled the comment about 1927. We booked the Derwent, as the Victoria, which we had stopped at before, was fully booked, so we were told! Had to park on the double yellow lines outside the reception and run inside... more

We spent a lovely week in the Derwent Hotel just before Christmas. We were part of a group playing bowls ( a well organised tournament). Our room was fine - clean and warm. There was a choice of food and the entertainment was enjoyable. more

We have stayed at the Carlton twice in the past and this year we spent Xmas at the Toorak with an extended family group. The staff at the Toorak were excellent - very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent quality and the hotel public areas are very comfortable and relaxing, away from the noisier parts of the complex. The... more

My family and I have stayed at this hotel every year for the past 10 years! Obviously.....we love it here!!! Some of the rooms do need updating admittedly, but the staff are very friendly, the food is lovely, the vegetarian menu at the Derwent is extensive, there are lots of daily and evening activities....and the games room, spa and pool... more

We have just returned from the Victoria hotel. We are in our forties and expected the 'party weekend' to have lots of dancing. I did ask before booking if it was for older people ( ie coach parties) and was informed that it was a mixed age group with plenty for everyone. I am a nurse and it felt like... more

Just had 3 nights at the Derwent with my 3 children aged 10, 12, 14. Excellant value for money. Good leisure facilities and they loved the Arena Bar. Stayed in a Superior Family room which was very nice and very clean. The food was ok for the money that we paid and the children enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend the... more
