Just returned from second trip to the Palace Hotel. This year, like last, was a work related trip to a conference. Best thing about the hotel is the catering. Stayed on a dinner, bed and breakfast rate (£69 which I think was good value), and the food was great. Dinner was 4 courses, lots of choice and excellent quality. Breakfast... More

We stayed at the Palace Hotel between Torquay and Babbacombe for four days in April and were delighted with our stay. Like a previous reviewer,I needed a gluten free diet and was amazed at the wide choice on the menu.We were staying on a half board basis and the hotel was far from full although we were told that the... I recently stayed at the Palace Hotel in Torquay for a conference. Personally, I loved this hotel: for many of my collagues it was a different matter. I had a massive room with windows on two sides, one overlooking the rose garden. Some of the furnishings were shabby, although the carpets and curtains were new and good quality. Clearly the... More

This stunning gem of a 4 star hotel is between Torquay and Babbacombe, and is much cheaper and considerably better value for money than any of the other hotels in the Bay. The building used to be the home of the Bishop of Exeter, and the architecture and period furniture in the public rooms is just beautiful. If you like... More

Foodlover079's review is a fair representation ...although I didn't have a cleanliness problem. Rooms are very small and basic. Didn't use the room shower but it is a basic mixer so probably not wonderful. We swam in their indoor pool every day instead and used the themastatic shower there. That is a wonderful facility. Food at dinner was very good... More

This hotel always causes me problems when reviewing. Firstly you have the ground floor with it's bars, lounges and restaurant. This area is tip top. Wonderful staff, that would be an asset to any business. and food which pretty much matches cruise line standards. Restaurant service second to none and all the staff bending over backwards to help and to... More

If you enjoy the comforts and facilities of a traditional mid 20th century hotel and appreciate great service and good value, The Palace is one to try. This is our second visit after an absence of a few years and we were not disappointed. The rather grand public rooms that form the core of the building were once the seaside... More

Stayed at the Palace recently for 2 nights on a business trip. it's a classic English Riviera hotel I think - feels old and grand. Quite reasonable. Availed a seasonal offer and got the room at a good price. They have decent gym / swimming pool facilities as well. The only thing which I didn't like much was dinner. The... More

This is a large old hotel but the room I stayed in was clean and well decorated with lovely views over the golf course and beautifully maintained gardens.Generous tea and coffee making provision.Bathroom extremely compact though. There are extensive sport facilities which appeared to be very little used.Payment is required for the hire of golf clubs, putters and rackets but everything... More

We're not new to the Palace Hotel, so we can see that there has been very little investment into the facilities on offer, which I can best describe as 'tired' (especially the beds and bedding!). However, the quality of food and service, the location and gardens, the three nights for two offer and the friendliness of staff all combine to... More
