Cannot understand the negative reviews. From the moment of booking in till the time we booked out the staff were pleasant and there to help. We were on the second floor near the junction on the sea front. We had the window open all night and didn't notice too much noise from the traffic. If people don't want older style... More

Lunch at the Grand Hotel. The staff were very friendly but totally lacked training. Our booking was lost initially but soon remedied.Soup for the two ladies arrived but no spoons -initially one arrived and was told they only had one, later two arrived by which time the soup was cool but still very tasty.Four breads but couldn't remember which was gluten free... Its charm lies in its slightly jaded look, but nevertheless it needs some TLC. The room was very hot and airless although clean. Breakfast was buffet style so bacon and sausages watery and limp. I can never understand why with the amount of staff seemingly available its beyond the wit of any hotel to cook breakfasts to order. Staff very... More

Beautiful Victorian architecture should give the clue away, we were lured her by the aspect of swimming however we didn't deem to use the pool. Breakfast was the high light of the stay. Lounge bar has a good atmosphere we had a fly in the whisky which was uninvited, the rooms are clean but have a musty smell, the bed... More

We stayed 1 night on a groupon deal, where we had a cream tea, evening meal and breakfast. The food was excellent, the staff were helpful and friendly. The room was small with no view but that's a minor criticism considering how much we paid. A very good night indeed, we will return.

Not the Grand of days gone by, starting to look a little scruffy. Having said that the staff were excellent, all very pleasant and helpful, the food was very good, having a meal in the Compass bar overlooking the bay, very nice. The facilities were very good from the warm indoor pool to the relaxing library with open log fire... More

We stayed here on a business trip . It was clean but very aged. I was a little concerned when they gave me a key to open my room instead of an electronic card. The fact that they said my key was missing should have rang alarm bells so imagine my surprise when I got upstairs and found someone's belongings... More

First time stay at the Grand Hotel and it was an excellent experience. The bar area which had a sea view and the library was nicely decorated, really relaxing. The Staff were friendly all the time and made you feel very special. We have become annual frequenters of this hotel when travelling down to stay there for an annual trade show. It never disappoints, from the moment we walk in we love it, its like walking away from every day troubles of the world and shutting yourselves away in a restful cocoon! We always treat ourselves to an evening meal in the... More
