Where to start? Yet again we were given room 123 with it's stunning view of the fire escape, although we were charged less than the previous time. The basin chain stay is still hanging loose as it was last year. No lights in the male changing room for the pool area. Not sure what has happened to the breakfast team... More

We stayed here over the bank holiday weekend, had a comfortable stay. Great location. Spacious ground floor room-even with a cot and with great views although decor a bit dated. Staff were very friendly and accomadating to our needs. Dinner at 1881 was OK-average. Breakfast was good. Would defo return.

A good looking lobby with view through to the bar and sea. Check in was genuinely friendly, very efficient and swift with most of my questions being answered clearly and concisely even before I asked them. An excellent start! Stayed over Easter on a dinner bed & breakfast good value deal with my partner and Mother. We had two rooms... More

Excellent value for a grand and atmospheric but now slightly worn around the edges hotel in a superb location. The nicest staff ever but oh the food..........we ate in the bar area for two nights and it was very expensive, tiny portions and poorly thought through. The breakfast was OK but hardly 'west country' as advertised on the website. My... More

After complaining... More

Old Hotels like this tend to be all the same ... a little bit tired in places and in need of a few million spending. This one is no exception. The areas which have been recently renovated were really nice, keep up the good work. The rest of the hotel was just a bit tired in general including the exterior.... More

Arrived two weeks ago, all the family for saturday dinner. Amaizing the time to wait at the door! That was only the beginig, long dinner and small portions of food. At the following day the breakfast was ok but mermelade and jam pots was sticky and one was reused, just disgusting! Staff was talking, ignored our table more than 7... More

Recently had lunch in the bar at the grand. Food average but service made up for it thanks to our waitress Victoria. She is a star! Couldn't do enough for us. Other staff at the grand could learn from her

Thank you for taking the time to write a review after your recent visit to the compass lounge. I am sorry you felt the food was average on this occasion as this is definetly not our intention. I am glad you received excellent service from Victoria she is certainly an asset to the team. I can assure you the rest... More

Well what can I say but sheer disappointment. Evening at 1881 restaurant began with being seated to our table . Then being over looked or shall I say forgotten for 25 minutes ! And then to call the waiter over to order drinks without being given the wine list ....ok orders in for drinks followed by half an hours wait... More
