Tried booking the Cliff House this week for a few days in August and after seeing that the website was offline i tried calling them to no avail. I tried again this week and got through to the person who now owns it and he confirmed the hotel closed for business in November 2013. It was a great hotel in... More

A long established gay hotel this place is one of those strange places that you could criticise if you wanted to be an idiot' but with maturity the realisation is that the occasional flaws only add to it's charm, character and almost magnetic re-visit asap attraction. An eclectic mix of guests and casual but efficient management reinforce the comfort factor... More

We had an enjoyable stay here. The hotel is located in a quiet area of Torquay very close to the sea at Meadfoot Beach, less than ten minutes' walk from The Meadfoot Inn, Torquay's long-established straight-friendly gay pub and about fifteen minutes into town. Everywhere is up or down a hill though - but then if you don't like hills,... More

Everyone we met made us feel really welcome and were so friendly, we were made to feel at home right from the start. The location was great, the service warm and welcoming and the room comfy...and Roberts cooked breakfast did the job, book with confidence, we will be going back as soon as we can.

...the building and location are so good and they are being so badly let down. it's like being on some old film set; the shining meets sunset boulevard meets great expectations. the whole place looks like it needs cleaning and painting. sheets, pillow cases, towels all look a bit suspect. all i could think about after having left early was... I have been twice to the Cliff House, once in January and again in April both 2013. Any criticism of the hotel would be entirely confined to the heating of public spaces but in good temperatures, both the terrace, garden and lounge are a real delight. The building is a really gorgeous older property that receives regular maintenance and has... More

My partner and I had such a wonderful relaxing break, exactly what we had planned for. The hotel has such a wonderful character and charm and the atmosphere was so comfortable and welcoming. If you are looking for the sterile and generic ambiance that larger chain hotels offer than maybe this is not for you, but if you want to... More
