Cannot disagree more with the negative review below. We have stayed many times over the last year, taking advantage of the sublime Sunday deal. Always made to feel totally welcome, the staff are friendly and nothing is ever a problem. Rooms and bathrooms are spotlessly clean. Fabulous fresh food cooked to order, including the breakfast (we hate buffet breakfasts). We... More

A beautiful property, much of which has been creatively and charmingly restored. But my lovely 4-poster room was not comfortable to live in. Bed way too soft with no support, modern bath had no shelf or soap dish in shower so all items had to be left on the floor, shower enclosure insufficient so half the bathroom got wet! Large noisy... Stayed here for one night whilst on business in the area. Lovely setting, room delightful with unexpected surprise of outdoor Jacuzzi! However, dinner in the hotel was completely ruined by noisy (screeching) young children at adjacent table - even though it was 7.30 when we reached our table. After 5 minutes had to ask to move but even across the... More

This is the second time we have stayed overnight at the hotel and it never fails to impress. The bedrooms in the main house are spectacular! The granite windows with leaded glass, the four poster beds with claw footed bath in the room add a real sense of occasion and grandeur. The main house is full of history and is... More

We booked a family room just for one night (my son had an interview at the university of Plymouth in the morning so wanted to treat him...) and thought we would have a great night sleep in beautiful surroundings. Well, first, the extra bed was not made when we arrived so the girl in reception did come straightaway with the... More

My family gathered for a birthday afternoon tea and loved the place. The building is lovely, the staff were excellent and the afternoon tea was more than we could manage; great quality too. If you need to stay in Plymouth this is a very good alternative to the run of the mill branded hotels.

Went DBB booked direct with Hotel, and stretched to The Royal Suite as a special treat. Lovely room with own private outdoor hot tub with views over the moors. Spacious contemporary accommodation kept reasonably clean and like the rest of the main building oozes Elizabethan charm. We booked a midweek break which reduces the price a bit. Dinner was very... This was a lovely hotel that was dog friendly and superb staff! The room was comfortable and overlooked pretty courtyard. We opted for pre booked 3 course evening meal at £29 which was excellent value with plenty of choice. Highly recommend this family run, historic hotel if you are in the area!!

At first the hotel looks everything it says, big main hall, quiet areas to sit and relax, very good first impressions. What it does not say that it is a dog friendly hotel , with noisy barking dogs, some through the night, owners letting them run round the garden, and there are exstensive building works right behind the hotel. Rooms... More
