We enjoyed the one night we stayed at the hotel after exploring Dartmoor park. A bit of a challenge to find, but then so is anything in Dartmoor. I enjoyed the sheep and ponies that found their way into the carpark, and the dinner was excellent (as was breakfast). Rosemary was a lovely hostess and while our room was quite... more

This hotel is very well located (if you have a car) on the edge of the moor with lovely views down towards Plymouth harbour. Although the rooms are in need of refurbishment - which I gather is ongoing - it is easily the best staffed hotel I have been in for many, many years. From the receptionist to the restaurant... more

I booked 3 nights here to use it as a base to explore Dartmoor. It's only 10 mins drive from Plymouth city centre, but stepping outside of the hotel you are straight onto Dartmoor. It was very peaceful and a great location to explore the area from. Our room had recently been refurbished and looked great, the bathroom was modern... more

Stayed here on business. It is quite out of the way, and involves driving on narrow country lanes to reach it. However that also means it is in the quiet countryside and has pleasant views. It is also at the edge of Dartmoor National Park and a good place to stay to explore the area. I stayed there for £40... more

Day Tripping from Plymouth, got a really warm welcome, very clean and surprisingly modern lobby and bar - very accommodating staff with simple pub food out of lunch service menu, cooked, prepared and served with care. Worth combining with a walk in Shaugh Prior. more

We were supposed to stay here for 3 nights but ended up staying there for 5 night because fortunately they could accomodate us early when we got in to a " bit of a kerfuffle" at the Wellington hotel in St. Just ( see review) As a real estate agent would say : "LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION" This hotel is located... more

We stayed for 5 nights at the beginning of July09.Have travelled to the Plymouth area from Yorkshire 8 times in last 3 years and stayed in a variety of hotels both in and around the city. This place is a real break from the boring normality but still only 25 minutes max from Plymouth city .Satnav is however recommended if... more

The Moorland Hotel is unpretentious, comfortable and very good value for money. Customer service is excellent, the owners and all their staff are friendly, helpful, in fact just thoroughly nice people. Others have already talked about the wonderful view and the great location on the edge of Dartmoor - I totally agree. The restaurant is modern and although it doesn't... more

My partner and I spent 5 nights at the Moorland and loved it. Ok, so it is out on the edge of Dartmoor so it's not the easiest to find, but it was no problem following the directions on the hotel website. The steakhouse at the hotel is brilliant (steaks as well as game, including kangaroo, ostrich and venison!) but... more

We have just returned from a short break at the Moorland hotel and although the room was a little bit dated you cannot fault the friendliness of all the staff especially Patricia , who co-owns the hotel, who even rang earlier in the week to ask if we wanted to book a table in the restaurant as she did not want... more
