Room 416 is possibly the most fantastic hotel room I have stayed in! It is huge with fantastic decor and carpet, 2 steps down to a lounge area. Clearly newly decorated - what wonderful wallpaper! Very contemporary Style bathroom with waterfall taps and one huge square shower head! The main staircase is spectacular! At breakfast we were greeted by a... More

We decided to stay in the Duke of Cornwall because it is in a good location and we like the older style feel of hotels. Check in was smooth but i didnt feel like the receptionist had much of an idea on dinner when we queried about it. Room: Newly refurbished. Wallpaper was pink with flowers which wasnt to our... More

Stayed two nights using Best Western Points. Hotel has a great location. Staff were friendly, waiters did a tremendous job, great food. hotel was undergoing renovations. Lounges had bare floors, they were replacing the carpet on the main stairs when we arrived. So got a glimpse of the old and the new. Colour of new carpet adds to the history... More

Dear Agforguy, Thank-you for taking the time to leave a review following your stay. I'm glad to say we completed the refurbishment of the ground floor, lounge and grade 2 listed staircase in November 2011. Since it's completetion have had many positive comments, especially about our bespoke Axminster carpets. We have now moved into our grand ballroom and have nearly... More

We chose for the second year running to have our family Christmas Day lunch at the Duke of Cornwall and it was wonderful! The food was of very high quality, perfectly presented and piping hot. The staff were all extremely smart, helpful and efficient and our lunch was a relaxed and enjoyable event. The Hotel decor had improved since our... More

Dear Karen C, Thank you for your lovely review. We are delighted to read that you enjoyed your Christmas lunch. You wouldn't recognise our Ballroom now as on the 2nd of January we started refurbishing. It is almost complete with only a little decorating and the carpet to lay. Its looking really great and worth a visit, even just for... More

From the moment of arrival when i had to wait for 15 minutes for batteries to open the room door until check out this was a dismal experience. Pleasant enough room 517 but the promised view is through small windows. The bathroom is stupidly impracticle with no shower counter or place to put shaving or brusing equipment. A small clock... Dear StolenSatNav, Sorry to read that you thought the hotel was dated. We have invested a great deal of money in the fabric of the building in the last few years. Our ground floor areas have just been finished, complete with bespoke Axminster carpets and we are currently spending £40,000 on our magnificent Ballroom. At the same time we have... More

We attended a Christmas party night and were very dissapointed. On arrival we were greeted by the host and taken to our tables. First hitch. We were not advised when making the booking that tables were for 8 so we would be on 2 tables. We have taken our staff to party nights at various hotels for the last 15... More

Stayed here to go to a gig at Pavillions. Excellent location with free parking. Check-in was good and room was large and had a sea view. Fancied a drink before the gig but the service in the bar was dreadful, which resulted in some potential customers walking away. Breakfast was excellent. A bar meal had been charged to my room... Could not fault any of the courses. Small menu changed daily. Not huge portions but that means you can manage three courses. Each course beautifully presented and very tasty. Had for starter a very tasty wild mushroom ravioli with wilted spinach and creamy sauce had lovely tempura mushrooms round the edge. Delicious! Do try the red gumnut wine husband is... More
