Friends recommended this hotel so we booked back in January through the hotel direct. The receptionist couldn't have been more helpful and the booking was duly made, although her English was not the best and it was months later I realised I hadn’t received the promised email confirmation. However the intelligent receptionist I spoke to this time quickly realised the... More

This hotel has seen better days. It really needs some money spent on it. Our room was large and clean but the carpet had burn/stain marks and the shower had significant mould in the grouting and on the ceiling. At breakfast - which was v. good - our tablecloth had a large stain on it, which was not recent. Nevertheless,... More

We booked this online through booking.com and I had to change the booking a couple of days before so rang the hotel direct . The receptionist couldn't have been more helpful and the changes were duly made . Check in was swift and easy the car park is situated around the back of the hotel and is far too small... More

We stayed here for two nights - it's in an area that is not near many sights, other than the water - but not much to do - more like a business area. (There once was a train station across the street.) The staff are lovely and so willing to please, however the building is old and showing it's age.... More

The aesthetic of the Duke of Cornwall is pure faded "end-of-the-railway-line" turn of the century - grand rooms and corridors, all decked out in heavy wallpaper. Rooms have the same pre-war decor feel - heavy beds, substantial furniture and patterns. The beds are incredibly comfy though and the bathrooms are surprisingly chic - usually the weak decor point in UK... More

Stayed overnight in August. About £95 for an overnight stay not including breakfast. Big bedroom but the cost of breakfast put us off eating here and the food menus were a little unoriginal. Reasonable location and a nice entrance hall but nothing to write home about.

Stayed 2 nights for a break. Lovely to see this 150 year old hotel still giving good service. Reception, restaurant and bar/lounge beautifully decorated. Our room was on third floor at the front but we experienced hardly any road noise. Our room was basic and could do with some tlc, eg, new shower head and taps. The bedroom was clean,... More

hotel was very clean and excellent staff, unfortunately the hotel has restrictions on dogs accessing other parts of the hotel so restricts all food to room service option only, so we ended up spending more money elsewhere instead of enjoying hotel facilities. but would recommend hotel even if its for its historical feel and how it stands out in the... Unfortunately we started off on the wrong foot as, no matter how many times I circled the hotel, I could not find a way in. I found the parking lot at the rear and off to the right - but it didn't look like it was attached, or even had close access. There was zero signage other than one saying... More
