I stayed here for 9 nights with my wife and two little children. Sally and John are very nice people that made us very welcome. We had a marvellous big room that was perfectly cleaned every day which I must say is not always common in english b & bs. Johns marvellous breakfast is a rich and perfect start in... more

I am surprised at some of the negative reviews about The Denes. I trust TA but it isn't monitored and reviews are not necessarily true. As the owner stated she has no record of some of the unhappy guests and those reviews are at odds with other people's and my experiences. Stayed here in January on a very quick visit... more

My girlfriend noticed this site and came across the Denes, where we stayed a few years back. After reading the other reviews I felt compelled to add my two bits. I have a feeling that the owners dislike young people, as there was an older couple staying as well who they were (somewhat) polite to. With us we may as... more

It is difficult for us to respond to these comments as the alleged stay was over two and a half years ago. However we do not believe these people stayed with us in June 2006 for the following reasons: 1) we have not found a couple from Wales that stayed more than one night in June 2006, 2) nobody in...

Having read the 'mixed' reviews before we booked our trip, we decided we would go with an open mind. So glad we did. We had a lovely stay, everything was good. Breakfast was plentiful and well cooked and sustained us until we had our evening meal which again, was excellent and plenty of it. There was plenty of hot water... more

My partner and myself stayed with Sally and John in August 2008. As usual, The Denes was svery friendly and welcoming, spotlessly clean with ample fluffly white towels and comfortable beds. The room was complete with tea and coffee making facilities - and also hot chocolate and a variety of biscuits. There was plenty of piping hot water which was... more

The landlady was okay but her husband was not the best type of personality to be in the business, I think that if he had smiled it might have helped but he gave us the impression that it was all too much trouble. The room was of a reasonable size but the bed was not very comfortable and the sheets... more

Having just stayed at the Denes for 4 nights with my husband, daugher, son-in-law and 2 grandsons, it will not be a place we will return to. If we had read the reviews before we booked then we would not have stayed with them. Cold showers, something we could all do without even when it it hot. Hot water is... more

My partner, myself and my mother stayed at The Denes for a weekend break. We have stayed there before (although it was the first time for my mother). As usual the rooms were absolutely spotless and of a very high standard, the bed was comfy and you can guarantee if you have left any toiletries behind - they will be... more

Me and my sister stayed at The Denes for one night only (unfortunately). We would have loved to stay longer because there was really nothing to complain about: the location was good (5mins walk to town centre), the room was nice, the bed was comfy and there were even a whole range of bathroom articles available. As we're not big... more

We found that this couple are not exactly child-friendly. Although the website boasts about it's books etc when my son dared to look at them he was warned off very abruptly by the landlady - he hadn't even touched a book, mind you, only looked and when my wife commented about her manner from thereon the atmosphere was as cold... more

Our response to this comment has to be generic as we have ascertained from our records that only two families stayed multiple nights with us in July 2006; one from France and the other from Kenya. Perhaps this comment came from another month or another year even! We have had many excellent families stay with us over the years with...
