We stayed at the Captains House recently for 4 nights on a bed and breakfast basis. This is a top class guesthouse in an idyllic setting overlooking the Lyn river. The room was very welcoming and spacious. The owners,Josie and Clifford are a lovely couple, Clifford has a wealth of information on the area and is always on hand to... More

We booked a two-night break. On arrival the owner was very friendly and helpful, gave us tips on where to eat and where to go while we were there, with a good local knowledge of the various walks. We had the balcony room, which was of a good size and clean. Although the décor may not be to everyone taste,... More

Ok "delux" room was tiny..We had paid the extra money so that we would enjoy a little extra. One wonders how small the basic room was.It was clean, but one could hardly call it spacious..The other gripe was the parking sign clearly signposted on front of the building. This is clearly misleading as in fact there isn't any.

After a long drive through Cornwall from a long camping trip, we were pretty exhausted upon arrival. The Captain's House was fairly easy to find but we couldn't see any parking nearby on the single lane road it was situated on so we turned around and parked near the harbour (£5 for 24 hours was very reasonable) then walked through... We stayed two nights. The room was small however it was very clean and for the price we paid it was excellent value. The owner was very helpful, recommending sites to see and places to go. He got us a map of the local area and planned the day for us with where to go. We stopped off at all... More

This colourful, spotless, cheery little gem in a beautiful setting offers extremely good value for money. Perhaps the breakfast is basic but more than enough, especially considering how affordable it is to stay here. The host is full of local knowledge and is more than happy to share with you. Will most certainly be staying again.

After a day off wondering what to do, we decided to take a short trip to our favourite place Lynmouth. On checking for a room we found one here. On check in we were greeted by a very nice host. He took us to our room whilst telling us about the history of the house. The room decor was slightly... More

The gardens attracted us from the other side of the river. On entering the garden, we were greeted with 'What can I get you?' and when we asked to take a look at the menu, we were told bluntly, to 'you've walked right past it, it's on the wall!' We should have walked out then, however we decided to stay... More

What an amazing place! Beautiful gardens and the present owners have over the years lovingly restored Captain Jack Crocombe's former residence to its past glory. They have a rare passion and pride in their home. It is tastefully decorated with an oriental theme, down to the William morris wallpaper and sumptuous collection of antiques. We were met with a warm... More

We just checked out this morning 2/8/14 after staying 7 nights with our dog Fergus who couldn't have been better looked after. Our room was up the spiral staircase and was spotless and cleaned and made-up every day. The views are wonderful onto the courtyard and over to the river. The owner is a character and offers local advice freely... More
