We have just spent the bank holiday weekend at Tregonwell. It was the only place we could find with space which along with the poor reviews made us very worried before we arrived. However, we arrived to find a lovely front garden and a warm welcome from the owner. Our room and bathroom were large, very nicely decorated and clean.... more

We stayed here two nights. He was very unkind to us from the beginning (untill the very last end, he didn't even bother to say goodbye when we left!). Owner didn't listen to us when we ordered breakfast (and the breakfast was terrible, everything too fat and the toast was sompy & cold). The rooms were very small and stuffed... more

We booked this B&B as we had been looking on-line for days, so we booked this place first as it sounded authentic and value for money. Then we read the reviews on here after and thought OMG what are we letting ourselves in for!!!! On arriving it was easy to find and next to the River Lyn in a very... more

Did not stay here but did stop for a cream tea and an AGA BAKED PASTY. Walking up it looked like an idylic cream tea type place for my husband and I to experience on our weekend away. We entered the garden to see another couple looking unsmilingly into their cups of tea and a note on the closed b... more

location is great and property looks OK from outside. But the rooms were small and cramped and too full of bizarre objects. That I could live with but our room was cold, we only had one towel each, the owner was rude and patronising on several occasions (though admittedly very helpful on others). My friend had a truly awful single... more

We didnt stop at this B&B-Thankgod. However we did stop for a cream tea. It was the worst cream tea that I had ever experianced. Cold tea, plastic bowls holding cream & jam,aga baked scones?, no napkin., dirty teapot No wonder the gentleman serving wanted money upfront and moaned because we hadnt exact change. Just dont bother stopping at Tregonwell... more

From the outside Tregonwell 'The Old Sea Captains House' can't be faulted. It is a pretty stone built house with lovely gardens. However step through the door and the true nature of the B&B is revealed. The the appalling decor in the public areas I can only imagine were installed at least 30 years ago. Our room was full of... more

We selected Tregonwell based upon it's location on the riverside and it's claim that it was voted top B and B in 2004. Well, all I can say is four years is a long time! The host showed little interest in us from the time of arrival until our departure. He was pre-occupied with three families who arrived at the... more
