Within 10-15mins walk from Exeter St David's train station, up St David's Hill, the City Gate hotel was easy to find. Room 13 was very clean, modern, of a good size that looked out onto the beer garden. Air conditioning was available but I just opened the window. The bathroom had both bath and shower. Toiletries by Algotherm were available.... More

Stayed this weekend as part of a wedding party. The rooms were pretty great, well appointed and very comfortable. The bed was huge and with lovely linen. The only downside was that the paint was coming off but as we were shown to our room, the member of staff did say that they were about to do a refurb. The... More

This is a pub hotel right in the middle of Exeter but does not have any on site parking. An NCP car park is a few minutes walk. The hotel rooms have been refurbished to a good standard and the rooms are clean and the bed comfortable. Staff have said the rest of the hotel is subject of further refurbishment... More

Great bed, good shower, quiet, and the location was great for the centre of town. It was above a pub so expected it to be nosier but we were on the top floor so that helped. No lift if you have mobility issues, but air con which was helpful for our stay. I would stay here again.

I felt I had to write a review for The City Gate as it's not often we rise the time to shout about the "Good Service" we get anymore. We had a very warm welcome, myself, mother in law and my son ( 18 months). We were treated so well from start to finish, the home made food was delicious... More

Easy access and very central to town - about a 5 minute walk. We only stopped for one night but all the staff were very helpful, and the room was very clean and well-kept. Wifi especially was fast, the shower was nice and the bathroom was a good size. Didn't visit the pub as we went out for a wander... More

Initial impressions were not great. My first observation was that the hotel was part of a terraced building very close to the road. The bath floor had bits of hair on it. The shower and shampoo gels were half finished - fine for a remaining guest but not okay for a guest just arriving to take up residence. The coffee... More

We stayed at the City Gate for one night only for a flying visit to Exeter, it is situated in a perfect location right in the city centre however, it has no parking although there are a couple of nearby multi-storey car parks, the nearest being in Mary Arches St and the entrance is about 200 metres away. I think... More

A Youngs Inn, in the center of Exeter. This is a great place to stay when looking for hotel accommodation on a budget. The rooms are nice, clean and the beds are comfortable. It still feels very homely unlike chain budget hotels. I would note the accommodation is above the pub. but I did not really notice the noise, rooms... More

An absolutely massive thank you to Carl and Rosie for hosting our wedding at the City Gate, we had a really amazing time! We had a BBQ in the beer garden, without doubt the best beer garden in town. There was loads of food and it was great quality with fresh salads and jacket potatoes. Carl the Manager then did... More
