Sadly, hugely overated - rooms expensive and too crammed. Bathrooms nothing special. Lounge in basement is decidedly average - almost like a cheap film set for a 10 second slot in The Bill. Restaurant good but spoilt by those parents who insist on bringing their crying offspring into an area where adults are having an enjoyable evening together. High chairs... more

I stayed at the Hotel Barcelona on 28th & 29th November. My wife and I had not had anytime away without our three young children for over a year. The 1st purpose of the weekend away was to do some Christmas shopping without having our children nosing at what we were buying. The 2nd purpose was to enjoy some 'us'... more

I stayed for 3 nights at the Hotel Barcelona. Good points: 1) Extremely helpful and cheerful staff. Everyone that I met couldn't have been more helpful and everyone seemed to enjoy working here. 2) Food in restaurant was superb. Breakfast buffet was one of the best that I have ever had - imaginative and well cooked and presented. Delicious. 3)... more

I stayed here for a night with some girlfriends. We each had a single room which was cleverly set out .Whilst not luxurious you cant help but love the room. These guys have paid attention to detail and the room works. We ate in the restaurant and can not complain about the quality or the service. The bar was fine but lacked something...we... more

On the basis of a very enjoyable stay at Hotel Barcelona in 2006, I booked their 2008 New Year's Eve package (meal + accommodation) back in August. My reservation was subsequently confirmed in writing. Last night, I received a phone call informing me that the hotel would be closed for refurbishment at New Year and that our booking could no... more

Was hugely disappointed with the hotel and their restaurant. The doors to the rooms are very heavy and when they shut you hear. The bathrooms leave much to be desired....it certainly needs updating. Very cold bathroom. The bed hard and the pillows too thin...you need more than the two each. The restaurant was terrible. The staff very attentive and pleasant... more

I booked a weekend break at the Barcelona for a birthday celebration. The location is perfect for exploring Exeter which has much to offer for a weekend break. The Hotel building is full of character and the hotel is very quirky, we had no problem parking at the hotel and parking was free of charge. Despite paying extra for a... more

Nice hotel, the rooms are clean, the staff friendly and helpful. We stayed in a room facing the main road so some noise could be heard from the traffic and close-by bar. However this did not affect our stay which was very pleasant. The breakfast is reasonable but a bit expensive for what you get. more

We decided to go away for a last minute break for our wedding anniversary and I have to say this hotel is absolutely lovely - a real gem close to the town centre and the Quay. Staff were lovely - very friendly, helpful and laid back. The food was superb and the cocktails extremely good value for money! There was... more
