We were travelling to cornwall and needed an overnight stay to break the journey up a bit. We booked online and the booking process was very easy-2 twin rooms, very close to each other as we requested. The 2 rooms (2adults, 2 children, 1baby) for the 1 night was £124 which was £14 cheaper then the price quoted by the... More

The hotel is a stones throw from st David's station so ideal if you have a stop over to catch an early morning train. We drove into Exeter which meant either parking in the station car park (£7.80 -and not clear if that was for a full 24h or we would have to pay again after midnight) or on the... More

Popped in here with the wife after watching a football match as an away fan at Exeter and although I had my colours on, we were made to feel more than welcome. we had a few lovely real ales and sat at the bar chatting to the nice friendly staff. We did not stay overnight as we booked a train... More

I stayed for a few days in August 2014. It's a cheap hotel with a decent breakfast included, good wifi connection (even on the top floor) and not far from the Town Centre but there are downsides. For me this included: a) the decor of the room being tired b) the shower sometimes stiopping completely (I think when people on... More

I have stayed at this hotel many times and it has got it's faults. The one thing in it's favour it is cheap and so close to Exeter St Davids, so handy when travelling by train. We were on the 3rd floor and it is so off putting going up the stairs past the 1st floor when the wallpaper is... More

In it's heyday, The Great Western Hotel was doubtless a 'proper place' to stay and adjacent Exeter St David's Railway Station. Pictures of steam engines hang on the paneled walls in downstairs public spaces, and are suitably lined - in, with regency red highlight. The carpet is fully fitted ; the bar is cosey, and the dining room is clean... More

I stayed in room 12 which faces onto the carpark, so a little noisy with traffic and really light because of streetlights. The bathroom floor was sticky. There is nothing to prevent people visiting the pub downstairs from going upstairs to the guest floor so I felt a little unsafe and aware of noise outside my room. Felt better after... More

Just needed somewhere convenient and good value for one overnight stay. Easy to find, easy parking and very friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Room a bit tired, but spotlessly clean and tea and coffee making facilities and TV if required. Didn't eat in bar, but all looked and smelled nice! Walking distance to town and University. Yes, place could do with... More

I stayed there due to location ,but the room was very poor and looked very tired.when the room next door had a shower or used the toilet then I could hear everything.there was no parking outside unless you wanted to pay for it.i had to leave early in the mornings and was not given the option of having a packed... You will have seen lots of not so good reviews for this hotel (along with pictures) but I thought I would put a positive spin on it. This in its heyday would have been a good quality hotel at one of the key junctions on Isambard Kingdom Brunel's Great Western Railway. You couldn't get closer for easy access and plenty... More
