We have just returned from a 2 night stay at this hotel to attend an Exeter University Open Day. Hotel generally- Postitives: Location - Couldn't be better for train, bus and taxi services. Breakfast - Acceptable food, although the 'waiters' weren't the friendliest. Breakfast is served in what doubles as a Chinese restaurant so our full English was accompanied by... More

Paid £42 per night (with breakfast) for a 2 night stay. Room decor was tired but clean. Breakfast was excellent , although dining room could do with a good tidy up. All the staff i encountered were very nice and helpful. If you want 5 star this probably is not the place for you , but for those on a... More

The carpet was threadbare, there were literal holes in the middle of the room, which was quite cold in itself. The furniture and decor was dated, scuffed paint with that dodgy 1970s veneer going on. Onto the positives! The bed was very comfortable, I actually quite like having a sink in the bedroom too. There was a lot of storage,... More

This excuse for a hotel has to be high on any list of the world’s worst hotels, but in reality to give it the credence of the name ‘hotel’ is a misnomer. The internal appalling state of repair of The Great Western the gives the impression of a now closed and derelict homeless hostel, with its peeling, flaking paintwork falling... More

Hotel is in a great location with easy access to transport links. Parking is reasonable at £7.20 per day. Hotel looks and feels a little dated and some areas could do with a makeover. However, all the room and the public areas are clean. Room was quite adequate in size with tea/coffee and biscuits, ample storage space, TV, hair dryer,... More

Hotel is in a very good location, just near to st david's station and easy access to airport bus and other city bus. Wifi is free and pretty good. They offer English breakfast (included in price) and was pretty decent and filling. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Had good sleep. Only thing I did not like is they don't have... More

If you need somewhere cheap and cheerful, this is fine. The room I had was a good size and even though by train station, I didn't hear them on a saturday night. As per the exterior, it is a bit shabby inside, but it's perfectly adequate and was clean and warm. My only complaint is that I contacted them several... More

I used to drink in the bar at this hotel 28 years ago, and don't honestly think it has seen much in the the way of decorating since. My single room was adequate for my needs. I stayed for just one night to attend a concert at the university, so the location was ideal. The station is close by and... More

Booked a double room for 3 nights and have to say Fawlty Towers was 4 star compared to this place. Whole place is very shabby and run down. Furniture old and battered, drawer front in room fell off and stayed off. Really nice "art deco" touch though with the awful sliding door into the bathroom. Has NO HOT WATER for... More

The single room I stayed in at the Great Western Hotel was nice. A 32" LCD TV, a comfy bed, complimentary biscuits and coffee and tea plus a really nice shower with plenty of hot water. Good breakfast and for £48, great value for money in Exeter. Only point to make is that there is a £7 charge for overnight... More
