From the wood burner in the indoor part of the swimming pool to the sneakers worn by the staff this place is wonderfully unique. Expect the unexpected. There is history but modernity, there is city life but an oasis of calm. We loved it as you can tell.

Magdalen chapter is the old eye infirmary. The city centre location is a great bonus if you want a night out in exeter. The is very little car parking. We came for afternoon tea. The good was poor some cakes burnt. Had to go and fetch sugar from the bar. No one came to check our food/drink was satisfactory or... More

We booked a standard double room and it was tiny !! My husband and I were having to negotiate around each other to get about in the room. The bathroom was equally tiny and quite dangerous getting in and out of the bath/shower as the side of the bath was so high. Bathroom products were Ren which is very nice.... More

Great hotel. Welcoming staff. Clean rooms. Good nights sleep. IPad for each room. Not cheap but worth the extra cash to treat yourself. Thoroughly recommend if you can spare the extra cash. My highest recommendation is that I will return.

Very difficult to review as this hotel does some things so well.....but......On arrival you will be extremely lucky to park as there are set down only spaces (which is obviously abused). You will be directed to a council car park close by but you will have to pay £10+ for an overnight stay. This was our second stay and on both visits... Having stopped over in July at the Premier Inn Exeter, I was disappointed I hadnt found The Magdalen Chapter earlier!! (we didn't pay much more to stay here) A lovely hotel in an interesting building, the room was large and spacious, very comfortable bed with good quality bed linen etc, what you'd expect to find in a decent 5* hotel... Check in at this hotel is minimalistic and a bit novel. You're given an iPad when you go to your room which has all of the info you need about the hotel. My only surprise was that I was staying in a very small room with a single bed. This wasn't clear when I booked. On the plus side, there... More

—3 nights, front-facing Feature room on 1ˢᵗ floor— We were looking for a luxurious getaway to celebrate a wedding anniversary. We were hesitant about the Magdalen Chapter because the website seems pompous, crabbed and turgid. But the reviews on here were good so we took the plunge. So glad we did. Our room was a great vast thing with lofty... More

We arrived at 10.30 and used the spa pool area, then a spa treatment. The lunch was excellent and I would recommend a visit. The shops in Exeter are good and Exeter is a beautiful city with plenty of restaurants and shops.

Visited today for lunch, unbooked and our first time. We were given a choice of tables and the service was very good, the food was lovely and I felt nicely full. I do wish there was a 3.5 star rating on TA:( the following downgraded it from a full 5*. The salt and pepper mill on our table was GRUBBY... More
