We were given a complimentary stay due to a pretty awful experience first time around. On this visit things were much improved (although from a very low base). On arrival you will note there is pretty much no parking. The option is to park approx 100 yards away in a council pay and display.Note it is £10.80 currently which is not refunded by... This is a boutique hotel. I have never stayed at a place that hands out an IPad at checkin. Room very modern. Staff were all extraordinarily hospitable. Reception staff, restuarant staff were all great. Had breakfast buffet on Sunday morning that was tasty. We only stayed here one night, but really enjoyed our stay. Quiet, clean room with a comfy... We stayed on a busy Friday night. Unfortunately the front of house staff were scruffy and we were handed a "dirty" iPad on arrival. I had to clean the screen with some loo roll before use! The carpet in the room was also not clean. I did mention this to reception but they didn't subsequently clean the room. On the... More

The hotel was very stylish and the room was modern. Unfortunately I would say it was a little on the small side but on the plus it did have a beautiful large bath. The spa was excellent as was the restaurant. This hotel offers the total package. Walking distance to the city yet it has a beautiful quiet lawned area... More

Stayed for Exeter graduation and it felt that the hotel was stretched to breaking point. The rooms are all a bit random with hugely different space for the same price. Downstairs works well but rooms all a bit clinical ( given that it is an old eye hospital, maybe not that strange!) The real downside is the staff in that... More

Stayed here with work, very funky hotel and ipad in each room(£400 if you break it!) but the highlight was the staff. really good service, all the time, especially a lady called Brody who dealt with my high maintenance food order. She was lovely and smiley and really helpful!

Old eye hospital tastefully restored , 10 minute walk to city centre , good breakfast on terrace in sun , did not use spa/pool but looked fine. ipad a waste of time , room a bit small for price one is charged , easy to miss as not sign posted well if coming from Motorway from Heavitree area. Carparking for... More

I stayed at the Magdalen Chapter in Exeter for a relaxing birthday weekend with my boyfriend this July. We had a lovely time, the room was clean, well designed and we loved the iPad - great idea! The restaurant was great, especially for breakfast - lots of options and everything I tried was tasty. I especially enjoyed spending time in... More

Visited here on recommendation, good food let down by attention to detail, also chef wiping sweaty head with kitchen cloth and then picking plates up with it. Food was very nice, monkfish seaweed butter and samphire, faultless, veg seasonal peas broadbeans , pomegranate seeds, carrots and beetroot, all superb, however personally think broadbeans should have been shelled. Roast potatoes cold.... More

We've stayed at the hotel a couple of times and really like it. It's beautifully designed. The restaurant is excellent - with outdoor dining in the summer. Everyone who works there is friendly and helpful with a positive attitude. I'd recommend it.
