I was debating on whether I was able to write this review, because I didn't end up going to the hotel, and here's why. I booked a table for the restaurant, and then called up a few minutes later because I was unable to make it, and the "gentleman" on the other end of the phone sighed and put the... more

My room was spacious with a comfortable bed and well maintained but dated decor. Even the television programmes were in-keeping with the period of the room, and I caught some Lethal Weapon before bedtime. Business-wise, I had my own mobile connection from my laptop, so e-mails were not a problem. I'm not aware of Wi-Fi being provided by the hotel... more

This is THE place to stay if you love fine food, large portions, excellent service and a warm welcome. On a business trip,I was booked into the Barton by our service provider, and initially, I was unsure due to the location, and that it was a small hotel. FEAR NOT ! Brian was most welcoming and informative to all his... more

What a lovely place to kick back a little! My husband and I and our 7 year old son stayed for 2 days and the staff and owners couldn't do enough for us. We had a family room in the old part of the hotel which was a huge space with a lovely thatched roof. We all slept so well... more

I usually stay is the larger hotels but fancied a "country style" experience on this occasion. I was traveling with 3 work colleagues and I keyed the location into the sat nav (I needed it !) - upon arriving the host (Brian if i recall correctly) was most welcoming. To be honest I had a 24 hour bug of some... more

I have stayed at this hotel several times now with my 2 children (ages 12 & 10) and we all rate the accommodation, the food and the host Brian, who makes us feel very welcome. more

Oh dear. I used this hotel as an overnight stop whilst on business in Exeter. The front man was very welcoming and friendly but the hotel rooms are in dire need of refurbishment. I had a ground floor room which was spacious but on entering it smelt damp and the radiator was put on immediately. The bed was uncomfortable and... more

Barton Cross is a lovely hotel; a thatched property set in the Devon countryside. It is worth staying at the Barton Cross for the food alone; the food is exquisite, with a good range and a couple of daily specials. The portions are just right to allow for real enjoyment of the flavours, without feeling too stuffed. The service across... more

Completely concur with the folks from Ottobrunn. The Barton Cross is a charming small, old world, hotel. While not high tech, the rooms are spotless and comfortable. The public areas are delightful and the food top notch. Great breakfast with haddock or kippers or traditional English on offer. The evening meal was excellent. The charges are fair and reasonable. You... more

This was the fifth time we spent some days at the Barton Cross Hotel. We want the world to know how much we always appreciated the time at this charming place. The rooms are spotlessly clean. Brian - the owner - keeps the hotel always in such good shape. The restaurant serves food of very good quality and the service... more
