You are paying for the location, i.e. the Exeter Cathedral but your room most likely will not have a view on it. The very modern shower room was impractical: The water went everywhere when showering as the shower glass was too small and it was almost impossible to wash your face in the basin due to the size of it... more

I was looking forward to this Hotel in fact chose to vacate a very reasonable hotel to sample it, I was put in a Cathedral view room. It had no shower, not even an overbath shower. The bath and basin were an object lesson in style over function. I vacated the hotel and returned to my former place after one... more

When visiting my son at University we stayed at the Abode on Saturday night. Six of us had a meal that evening at the restaurant which was excellent. The atmosphere was relaxed, the decor was elegant, service was good and the food including complimentary canapes and coffee sweets were fantastic. Our experience of the hotel was not as comendable. It... more

Staying at the abode for a friend wedding, arrived at 11.30 and was pointed to our room. On approaching our room heard a constant noise from something that sounded like an air conditioning unit, we got into our room number 115 to find that the noise got louder. Complained to desk and was moved room to one where you could... more

Abode, in our opinion, is the best located hotel in Exeter with absolutely stunning views, as long as you request a cathedral view room! We selected an "enviable" graded room which was a good size and had an amazing roll top bath and seperate walk in shower. We were disappointed to have to eat our breakfast in the Cafe, which... more

I travelled to Exeter on business and stayed at the Abode from Aug 17-28th. I truly enjoyed my stay and really felt it was a great home away from home. The front desk staff, Zoe in particular were always friendly and helpful. The brekfast crew at the cafe were also very nice. I stayed in a comfortable room not wanting... more

Initial arrival was marred a little by the fact that the booking, made on the Abode corporate website, had translated from two rooms to one. The staff however, were great, and rectified this without fuss, giving my collegue a free upgrade. The hotel itself has someting of a dual character, one old world Hotel Clarence, and a newer, trying just... more

This was my fifth or sixth stay at Abode (aka The Royal Clarence). Business has taken me to Exeter quite a lot over the last few years and a stay at Abode has always been something I looked forward to. This time I thought the hotel had lost its edge. Why is breakfast no longer served in the restaurant but... more

We couldn't fault this hotel, from the moment we stepped through the lobby doors we were treated like royality, the staff were helpful and friendly, the room was spacious with a roll top bath in the bed room, the rooms were very clean with every thing you could need including iron and board. the tea tray had individual coffee filters.... more

I stayed 2 nights in this hotel and I was really looking forward to it since everything about it looks modern, fresh and clean. The plus points are that the rooms are clean and smart and everything you need is provided and the location is brilliant just opposite the cathedral you can't get more central than that. The bad points... more
