Allegedly the first purpose-built hotel in England, it's certainly a warren of corridors and stairs as several ancient buildings have been knocked together over the centuries. Perfectly located on Cathedral Green, it's this you pay for. Recently refurbished but otherwise average, some of the cheapest rooms are badly situated. Unless I wanted to be in a great setting in the... More

A wonderful hotel in the heart of Exeter next to the impressive cathedral. Service is excellent, michael caines restaurant is exceptional and if course the champagne bar. A great 3 nights with no regrets or complaints More

My wife and I stayed at the Abode hotel in Exeter this weekend just gone. I am not normally one to write reviews, however I must say that it was one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. It was our first wedding anniversary and so we thought we would try it out. The staff we great and... More

I just can't say enough how pleased I am that we decided to have our wedding reception here, and to stay here on the night. I don't really know where to start; the staff were attentive and went to great lengths to ensure that the whole thing ran like clockwork, everyone thought the food was amazing, the actual hotel itself... To start, I would like to tell anyone thinking of staying here to listen to the bad reviews. This is by far the most over rated luxury hotel I have ever stayed in. The staff (with exception to the adult reception staff) are grumpy, un-proffesional and un-helpfull. The rooms though they are well renovated, are vastly overpriced. The walls are... More

We have been to Abode Exeter a few times but I think this will be our last visit. I paid for a Desirable Room but it slowly dawned on us that we had been downgraded. The bed was not king sized, no roll top bath and a card welcoming us with a Happy Birthday message. It became apparent that the... More

It was meant to be a lovely trip with the parents from Australia, unfortunately, the overall experience with Abode hotels and Exeter in general left us cold. The hotel has a more eminent title of Royal Clarence Hotel and it sits directly opposite of Exeter Cathedral (5 gbp entry per pax) and so has a great view. There are some... More

Lots of great things about this hotel - location, reception and bar staff, character of the old building. The room was nicely decorated - it wasn't a cathedral-view room, though, so we looked onto roofs and the (very noisy) air conditioning (or something else making lots of mechanical fan noise). Toiletries were lovely; like another reviewer, we objected to paying... More

We stayed in ABode for a night in May. Situated opposite the cathedral it's in the loveliest part of Exeter. Note: There is NO Parking - you have to park quite a way away. Note: re TA rankings - this is one I would rate 3.5 (as it's better than UK average but NOT very good!) Very much a boutique... More
