On balance we enjoyed our stay-- but with a bit more care and attention (and more than anything proper management) it could and should be so much better. The Good: Location in the heart of the town and ideal for a walk before/after dinner The food in the main restaurant was good and fresh (especially the fish)- if over salty... more

This hotel has pretensions which it does not realise. The food is adequate and sometimes good. The staff seem very friendly, overwhelmed, disorganised and polite. Having stayed there for 2 weeks in July 2008 I would neither stay there again or recommend it to anyone for business or leisure. It is too expensive to forgive its faults. Incorrect information was... more

Stayed at the Abode while visiting the university open day with our daughter. booked two rooms one desirable and one comfortable. Travelled by train because of fuel strikes. Taxis easily available from the station. check in efficient. lift out of order so had to lug baggage up three floors. room looked fine, a little compact. Stripped wood floor (sloping) so... more

Booked a Fabulous room as it was one night away without our 3 year old. It was a spacious room but I did feel that for the price it was left standing by the quality regularly turned out by your Hotel Du Vins or Malmaisons. No mini bar. Bathroom fixtures and fittings fairly amature. On the plus side - a... more

Overall a fun place to stay with slick looking rooms and a good restaurant with very friendly, if slightly slow service, but can't forget the sleepless night we had here. Our room was on the first floor situated over a noisy pub/bar and as the drinking increased so did the decibels. When the bar shut - the revellers hung around... more

I stayed at this hotel for one night (luckily) on business. The location is great, overlooking the cathedral IF you are fortunate enough to get a room at the front of the hotel. If you, like me are unfortunate you will get packed off to a dingy, depressing room with a small obscure glass window five feet off the floor.... more

I checked into this hotel having been so disappointed by my experience at the Mercure Southgate (I had been booked in for 3 nights but left after 1). The Abode is excellent. The staff are helpful and friendly and the rooms are superb (good size desks and free internet). The food is as excellent as you would expect from Michael... more

One of our daughters had her wedding reception here in April and rather than drive back to Somerset we stayed the night. The hotel is situated right in the city centre and although it does not have its own car park there is no need to hike your luggage from Mary Arches car park as someone suggested earlier. Rather than... more

Despite several issues, we did enjoy our stay on the whole. The good: Location is amazing, right in the centre of the city opposite the Abbey, next to the shops and many restaurants The eateries - we had lunch in the hotel cafe and breakfast in the restaurant, both excellent. Breakfast is far too expensive (£15) if not included in... more

Stayed here for one night on business recently. The hotel's great - as everyone else says the location is stunning, staff were courteous and nice and it has a gorgeous maze-like interior, i didn't think it was 'clinical' at all. The only prob in my room was the bathroom, every time i had a shower it got wet as there's... more
