Stayed one night on business - arriving late on a Sunday night. Terrible trouble finding the hotel - my usually reliable sat nav couldn't find it, nor could the series of local people I stopped in the street to ask. Eventually phoned the hotel and spoke to the night porter - he has to be on the most helpful, considerate... more

This is an historic property in an exceptionally privileged position; many of the rooms have views of the cathedral that may be the best such views one will ever enjoy from a bed...... The latest manifestion is 'Abode' which is part of a chain owned by the cook Michael Caines (who supervises the restaurant but cooks elsewhere) and his business... more

Great rooms, great service, stayed here with some girlfriends for a night out in Exeter and will certainly go back to the hotel again. The service int the champagne bar at the hotel was top notch like the rest of the hotel. more

Impossible to access by car, motorcycle or horse unless one is super determined. Parking is miles away in a urine soaked public car park. Lift is hopeless, and reception staff complacent to all comments. Tiny and over priced rooms with horrid bathrooms without baths. Great view of Cathedral if you get one of those rooms. Hideously overpriced and bad breakfast. more

My husband and I enjoyed a mid-week lunch here earlier this month. Having eaten at Gidleigh Park Hotel we were expecting the food to be of a very similar, excellent standard and we were not disappointed. We would certainly recommend eating here for anyone looking for a special meal in the centre of Exeter. If anything, we thought the food... more

We went for lunch midweek. It was not busy. The food & room were excellent & on the whole, the staff attentive. However, one individual was very unprofessional & rude. When one of our party asked what did a meal come with he replied, "what it says on the menu." We laughed!, but he didn't see the joke. I used... more

I stayed here as part of an arduous business trip and found it very enjoyable. The staff were helpful, the room was good (although the bed was too soft but that's just down to personal preference) and the restaurant was fantastic. The standard of the food was very impressive. Little things seemed to matter to the staff (in a good... more

Used to be called The Royal Clarence Hotel - so much nicer. Quirky old building in a fabulous location a stone's throw from the cathederal. They have made the most of the rooms while keeping the wonky staircase and useless lift - no one closes the gates - with very comfortable beds, stylish bathrooms which look great but the showers... more

Our Son and Daughter bought us a one night special at the Hotel, with Bed, Breakfast and Dinner for early November. We were rather worried after seeing some of the previous reviews, but, after our stay, we really wonder whether we were just lucky, or the other reviewers unlucky. Our Room, 201, was on the 2nd floor directly opposite the... more

I had looked forward to staying in this hotel after viewing the website but what a disappointment. My room was so tiny and the big bed (the only good thing) dominated the space. It was a struggle to get around it and I bruised myself on both the TV shelf and desk chair in doing so. No comfortable chair so... more
