Firstly, this hotel is lovely, with the hotel overlooking the Cathedral of Exeter and in close proximity to the main shopping area of Exeter. However, the most frustrating and annoying task was to try and get to the hotel as the postcode provided will place you squarely outside the Cathedral with no access to the road that lies outside the... This hotel used to be caled the Royal Clarence and is one of the oldest in Exeter (1750s?). my parent stayed here in the 80s when i was at uni in exeter so i returned knowing it had a great location opposite the cathederal but little else. i was very pleasantly surprised. the new owners have renovated without removing character.... Beautiful hotel with lots of character. Standard room was spot on. Very relaxed & comfortable. Staff are a credit to the hotel & bar tenders very knowledgable & attentive. Great location - in the heart of it. Would definitely recommend :-)

Let's start by saying this is an old building, lovingly restored, in a town centre with no on site parking. Floors are not level, there's lots of stairs, nooks and crannies and the lift is an original from the turn of the last century but for all of that its quirkiness makes it unique and in these days of homogenisation,... Dear ‘Janie 50_10’ Thank you for taking the time to write a review regarding your most recent stay. As you say we are a little quirky, which comes from a building that has seen many different owners over the last 200+ years and pleased you like it. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it is nice... More

We stayed in abode because of its location and a very attractive dinner, bed and breakfast deal. The location readily is good, though be mindful that there isn't a car park. It's a great place to stay if you're traveling by train. The staff were lovely and unprompted, when we explained that we couldn't be there for dinner on the... More

We stayed at the Abode Exeter in April 2014 to break up the long drive down to Cornwall. Hotel is in a fabulous location - the only minus side is that there is no parking so a little walk to nearest public car park. Hotel staff absolutely brilliant - especially Reception as we were struggling to find the hotel -... More

Dear ‘Jean E’ Thank you for such a lovely review, it is so nice to hear you enjoyed your stop off stay with us and found time to enjoy our Restaurant and Bar. We recommend dropping bags off at the Hotel first use postcode EX1 1DZ if using a Sat Nav and then parking afterwards where we can give you... More

I chose this hotel due to its location and the added bonus of a Michael Caines restaurant. The room was small and there were a lot of steps to navigate to reach it but this is a very old building so comes with the territory. However, the room was comfortable and had a fabulous shower. Staff were friendly and helpful.... More

Housed in an old building on Cathedral Square, a modern reception hides the reality of an older property. There is one antiquated lift...if someone forgets to close the inner gate then the lift is stuck. Doors onto the staircase from upper floors open onto a landing blocking the way for someone coming from above, and where they could be hit... More

Dear ‘madogvin’ Thank you for your review, I’m sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay. The hotel is over 200 years old and as such the flooring is not one level with some rooms only accessible by stairs. We are a listed building and as such some areas we are unable to change. We tell all our guests... More

We have stayed and dined at the Abode a few times before so we chose the hotel when we attended our sons graduation this weekend. Of course we completely understand that graduation in Exeter brings substantial pressures and expected them to be busy. Our room was incredibly small but we didn't mind. Although we had tried to book a table... More

Dear ‘Deborah D’ Thank you for your review and please accept my apologies for the short fall in service received. As you mentioned Graduation week is a busy week, all aspects are carefully planned well in advance, the Restaurant was full on most sittings sometime ago. The bar is small as you would have seen on previous visits and the... More

Booked for business stopover and was pleasantly surprised to find an excellent room, went for the upgrade. Champagne bar superb with top mixologists awaiting your cocktail pleasure, had restaurant booked elsewhere so cannot comment on hotel dining, although menu looked superb.
