An excellent, dog friendly place of refuge from the urban environment. So sorry it is now closed and very much hope it finds new owners soon. Nearby bridge was used in War Horse film and the location gives great access to the high moor

16 of us arrived (pre-booked) for lunch having hiked across the moors. Muddy boots and numerous dogs were welcomed. Good menu range plus an excellent specials board. Very friendly staff. Plenty of car parking if needed A very pleasant atmosphere and good food at a sensible price. A shortish wait was entailed due to group size but sitting in the... More

There aren't all too many places to stay on Dartmoor so huzzah for the Forest Inn. Simple, straightforward accommodation, slightly bunkhouse vibe (shared lavvie for our inexpensive room, suited us fine), good beers, scrumpy and grub to be had downstairs. Location is totally great, view from the hillside behind the pub on a summers evening as the sun sets is... More

We picked this B & B for its location solely. We were warmly greeted and found the pub a very friendly . To be fair our room could have done with a lick of paint, but as the rest of the place was so good it was of no importance, The Breakfast was superb, We had an evening meal and... More

The Forest Inn has relatively new owners and they are on top of the game. A very friendly reception and quite excellent home made and quality food (the steak and ale pie with real pastry straight from the oven is definitely worth trying). Good beer and wines as well. If you need to catch up on E-mails etc. the WiFi... More

My partner and I stayed here two nights as we wanted to explore Dartmoor. The inn is half way up a steep hill in just outside Hexworthy, right on the high moor, and with good access to the Dartmoor Way and thew South Moor. The owners were really friendly and helpful, and made us feel right at home. The rooms... More

The Forest Inn is perfectly situated for keen walkers. The rooms are clean and fresh. The owners have put a lot of effort in getting the hotel back up to scratch. Still some way to go, but I am sure that they will get there. Don't miss the cockateels, the hounds, and the pony named Charlotte Bronte, and the nearby... More

Nine of us spent a couple of nights as a group for a reunion at this delightful hotel. Sam and Davie are great hosts. The room was large, very clean, bright and airy. The views spectacular with great walks. The location is ideal for those who love the Moors but also near enough to visit towns nearby. It's also the... More

This place is truly special - from the spectacular drive to the Inn from the typically British interior, the Forest Inn provides everything one could ask for on a quiet forest getaway. I don't know when was the last time I have actually been to a place where there was no mobile reception, but that was exactly what we were... More
