My memory of Clovelly as a kid was of cobble streets sloping gently to the sea. In reality Clovelly seems to be at 45 degrees and I would advise a Sherpa and some mountain goats to navigate. Having said that it is a great place, charming and very scenic and the Red Lion did not disappoint. We drove down to... More

Thanks for the review. This part of Devon has one of the most beautiful coasts along with some well hidden wonderful beaches and walks. It is so beautiful because of the steep hills and small lanes. So arriving at the Red Lion, located at the base of this coast line right on the beach creates a sense of excitement. The... More

It's a long walk down steep cobbled streets to the little harbour but it's worth it for this pub especially in the off season. Their own beer , Clovelly Cobbler is excellent, food was very good and if you lived here this would have to be your local. It's old, hasn't been tarted up, and is welcoming.

Its always nice to get local visitors to give us feed back. The Cobbler you refer to is brewed only 3 miles from the Red Lion and is a great brew as you rightly pointed out. We are able to take it little more time out of the very busy season in the bars as during the main season we... More

Difficult road to the hotel but what would you expect for somewhere in such an excellent location. Staff very friendly room had a fantastic view and food was very good, especially the farmers breakfast! Great that you can park next to the hotel, loved Clovelly and the fact you could just chill out watching the fishermen land their catch.

We had booked this hotel for a 1 night stopover & on arrival were instantly impressed with its appearance & location right next to the harbour & sea. This favourable impression continued on booking in with a very pleasant & helpful receptionist who walked us to our room which was very well equipped, with a really comfortable bed & lovely... More

Dear Mr H really pleased you enjoyed your visit to the Red Lion and Clovelly so much. Our Sail Loft rooms, of which yours was one are nearly 3 years old now. They have brought a new element to the Red Lion in their size and quality. We work hard as a team to deliver a friendly personal service to... More

The RedLion hotel was great. Marie, possibly the perfect hotel manager, I couldn't believe her willingness to help. We booked late but still managed an night in Room 5, which is fantastically appointed with a balcony. Second night was in room 8 which was fine also, although, a compressor unit can be heard during day time (switched off at night).... More

Many thanks for taking the time to write a review. I have passed your comments onto Marie who, like I am delighted you enjoyed your visit to the Red lion so much. You have totally captured Clovelly in your header. We do have two very different opperations that run in synergy with each other and are sometimes quite difficult to... More

What a great little hotel and in such a unique position at the bottom of a cobbled street on the quayside. Staff very helpful and food really good and even though we had a small warm room (even with window open!) the view of the sea and shingle so close by made our one nights stay very memorable! Would come... More

Delighted you enjoyed the experience. Next time try one of our beautiful sail loft bedrooms as they are larger and look out over the bay. A little tip is to sit out on the balcony at night and watch the stars. We have so little light pollution at Clovelly it is an amazing sight! Nick More

I have not stayed in this hotel - the review is purely of the food served during the day. I had decided to wait until I got to the harbour to eat and was most disappointed to find that this was really the only option (unless I wanted seafood). Ordering at the grubby bar, the choice was limited and not... More

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. We take all comments made very seriously and try to ensure we offer he best possible service and food to everyone. We stayed in rooms15 and 16. Both were on a pebbly beach and had a balcony and superb views. You could go to sleep listening to the waves which was lovely. Rooms really nice - superb furnishing, modern and very clean. The Hotel website shows an accurate picture of each room so you can choose. Lots of hot water and... More

If you are arriving by car, you have to drive a narrow and steep road down to the port. Once there, you can relax at a wonderful place. Everything feels back in time. There are very, very different room types. Check, what fits best to you. We think, room #4 is the best room. Renovated, big bed, great view, modern... More

My husband and I stayed at the Red Lion last month for a four night break. We had the most relaxing and rejuvenating trip. Clovelly is such a beautiful little village and we enjoyed many wonderful walks around the area. The staff at the Red Lion could not have been more helpful or kind. We had wonderful sea views from...
