Have been to Clovelly several times over the years for day trip. Can't comment on the rooms, as we have never stayed. However, always look forward to the walk down to the harbour and something to eat at the Red Lion. Oh how wrong we were yesterday. The pub area itself was dirty, the staff made you feel like an... The Red Lion has always been a favourite of ours when visiting Devon. We extended our stay to two nights over the August bank holiday. The room was cozy and clean, the staff polite and helpful but sadly the food was not of it's normal standard. The menu last year was great and we were looking forwards to a similar... More

This was our second stay at the Red Lion . The first time we stayed (3 years ago) we stayed in the actual hotel which was fab. This time we had spotted a last minute deal on their website (£100 per room bed and breakfast) and on phoning were told these were the sail loft rooms. A real bargain considering... More

My first visit into North Devon and certainly won't be the last- although on business I had very minimal time to see Clovelly but what an exceptional spot and one of the most breath taking views, it really goes to show you don't need to leave the UK to benefit from good weather and landscape as the views here are... We stayed at the Red Lion Inn in August, we were given room 5 in the main Inn which has a balcony right over the harbour. The room was clean, spacious and tastefully decorated, but the main thing was the view which was fantastic. The staff were friendly and helpful and Clovelly itself is one of the prettiest little places... More

We live locally, but hadn't eaten at The Red Lion for a long time. I'm afraid we will not be returning! We eat out around twice a week and are very into good food and local produce. We grow much of our own food and often judge restaurants on the quality of their vegetables, or lack of them. You will... More

We went for a drink one afternoon a couple of weeks ago. It was a beautiful sunny day and the hotel is, undoubtedly, in prime location. We went straight to the bar and I asked for a white wine and a'tap' was pointed at so I nodded and said that was fine. Then after a couple of drops, literally, was... More

Haven't stayed at The Red Lion so can't comment on the accommodation - but if what we experienced at lunch today is indicative of the way they care for customers we never will. This is the height of the tourist season yet they had just 3 staff on duty and sadly, the task was well beyond them. Not one table... More

My daughter and I booked a one night break at the Red Lion and very last minute massage and reflexology with Em at calming quays. My daughter is 20 and we have been visiting Clovelly since she was 6 months old. I am so pleased to say that very little has changed in this beautiful village. The room was very... More

Stayed for our wedding anniversary and had one of the new rooms in the Sail Loft- beautifully furnished and right on the pebbly beach. The food in the restaurant was excellent at dinner ( we had fish and lobster) and at breakfast. Friendly staff team- Can't wait to go back.
