We called in over the weekend for a bite to eat. It was late afternoon, 4 ish so not too busy. The wait for food was about 20 mins - I ordered a ploughman's which was nice BUT firstly, it would have got 5 stars if they had made their own chutney instead of shop bought Branston's and secondly what... Stayed here for a couple of nights recently and we were pleasantly surprised by this small hotel which is, essentially, a pub with rooms. Although we had to take the last room available which was a twin room above the kitchen, the noisy fan below that we were warned about, wasn't a problem and certainly no worse than aircon. As... I went here for lunch with 4 friends, my mother and husband. The table was prebooked by one of our friends. We arrived at the correct time but although the table was in a quiet room in a nice setting by the window, it was not laid up in any way. We are senior citizens, with half of the party... More

Very friendly staff behind the bar and on the service side. Have spent last three years trying to find the perfect Crab Sandwich...........and at the Rising Sun they produced by far the best so far..........doorstop wedge of granary bread, bulging with mixed brown and white crab and an added touch of spring onion, with a tomato and onion side salad... Yesterday we spent half of the day in beautiful St.Mawes, and chose this pub for a lunch. The older barman seemed more intent on pumping out the beer pumps than helping a very polite young lad serve customers then this bar man ignored not only me but an elderly gentleman in front of me at the bar to serve a... My husband and I visited this hotel and found it to be quite charming. The man who worked at reception and at the bar was very friendly and accommodating. All the staff were lovely, really. We had an evening meal in the restaurant below and it was very tasty. The room was large and clean. It wasn't the most modern... More

We stopped in here for a quick drink and liked it so much we came back for lunch. Staff were very friendly and helpful, the menu was great and the food was fresh and tasty. Lots of choice, the seafood was amazing and our 1 year old especially enjoyed the kid's ploughman's - it was lovely to see healthier options... More

Sat outside in the late afternoon sunshine enjoying the beautiful sea views whilst tucking into a delicious cream tea. We were pleased to find this delightful pub after our trek along the coastal path to the castle with our exhausted Jack Russell who was more than welcomed. The atmosphere was very friendly and the staff were very accommodating.

Came over on the boat from Falmouth. Came in here and glad we did. Sat outside and really enjoyed the fresh food and drink. Kids happy. This is a really good pub and you can see the regulars were in enjoying it too and quite rightly too...not just a tourist trap. Scallops and garlic bread highly recommended. Thanks.
