A lovely hotel, ideally situated in the village. Stayed in their family room which is exceedingly spacious and well equipped. Only down side is that the 'parents' room is above the kitchens so there was the drone from extractor fans/boiler(?) going all night. Too hot to close the windows, but perhaps not a problem for sound sleepers. Breakfast and dinner... More

Just returned on the 23rd from St Mawes we stayed at the Rising Sun in their Glendurgan Suite for 3 nights ,the room is light and large with in character furnishing dated but very clean with traditional tea and coffee facilities, the breakfast is excellent and the bar with its Cornish ales added to the experience the staff were polite... We have just returned from a seven night break i.e. 3 nights in the Heligan suite and 4 nights in the Glendurgan suite. The Heligan suite is a twin-bedded room situated at the front of the premises with excellent views over the harbour. The room is a reasonable size with an integral sitting area and an en-suite bathroom. There is... More

This is definitely a pub to visit when it's sunny with a large garden at the front with views over the port. I can imagine that it gets very busy here in the peak of summer. Food was expensive but very tasty and offered local fish. I had the scallops which were very nicely cooked and the haddock was also... More

We have been and stayed in St Mawes two years running now. (Just returned after two glorious weeks of sunshine) We used The Rising Sun regularly as we did last year. The staff and manager, Paul, are very welcoming (to us and our two Springers) giving great service each visit. Good selection of St Austell Brewery's cask beers, (personal gripe... More

Visiting St.Mawes we were caught in a brief shower, so dived into the nearest place which was The RisingSun. The eating area was full, but there was a large table in the lounge suitable for for the six of us. Our dog was welcome. We only had a main meal, which was very good. The three who had the fish... The place is in a lovely spot which is really the only excellent thing that this venue has going for it. Food is fairly good but had to wait at the bar for someone to come and take the order for nearly 10 minutes which was not good. I was a little annoyed that the waitress just deposited the food... What a shame. What was a great pub - which we have visited regularly over the last five years - has been spoilt by declining standards and a very rude staff member. All we asked for was for our beef to be well cooked rather than rare. Most carveries are more than happy to oblige but the staff member took... More

We had a lovely break at the Rising Sun. Our room was spotless, with a sea view and very comfortable bed. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast - "full English" was the best we have ever had ( and my husband is a conisseur!) we also ate in the restaurant and found the food very good and... More

Had a 5 day break at the rising sun and really enjoyed it. Rooms were comfy and spacious, decorated with taste and with little extras that were so nice and thoughtful. All the staff were friendly and always willing to help. Food was well above the average pub grub and the breakfast menu was varied and excellent. Having travelled down... More
