Having visited The Rising Sun several times a year for the past 20 odd years, and regularly enjoyed the views, the drinks and the food from the beer garden and the previously snug bar - I was bitterly disappointed to revisit this weekend with family & friends in tow. One of our beers didn't taste right so took it back... more

Expensive for £160 per night but the room was lovely. (Glendrum room) mini suit. Breakfast was great. Staff very helpful and St Mawes itself is a very beautiful bay. Eveniing menu is ok but not fine dining, pub food - medium standard. One thing that might turn you off this hotel if your a light sleeper or go to bed... more

This is our regular Friday night haunt for fish and chips and when we had a Jewish friend staying recently they were very happy to discuss what food she could have and to accommodate her [kosher] requirements. Well done! more

Having visited the Rising Sun for a number of years it is a shame to see it now. The previous reviews were accurate, the place was a gem, the food was great but a year ago it changed hands and the old chef left. The small cosy bar was closed in a bid to get more covers. A lot of... more

Pleasant room, though with kitchen smells. Housekeeping good, but poor front-of house with no regular reception or sense of management. Very poor food poorly served - very overcooked steak and soggy chips, fried bread instead of toast with scrambled egg, terrible greasy and tough bacon (microwaved?) inedible haddock. Seems completely lacking in management, and the chef needs sacking. more

Lovely B&B

I stayed in this property in June 08. The room I had was quite spacious, well appointed, and very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Great variety for a B&B, and a well served cooked meal was on offer. The location was second to none, right on the water, next to the biggest car park. St Mawes is a truly beautiful spot... more

If I had gone by some of the reviews on this page, I would have had my reservations about staying at this hotel. So I am even more happy to provide an "unbiased" opinion on this place after staying there this past weekend to celebrate a wedding of a close friend. In one word - absolutely delightful!!. Excellent location in... more

We stayed at the Rising Sun in June 2007. We had stayed there years ago and loved it. We found it delightful, our room was spacious, light and airy with two settees etc and a comfortable roomy bed. Breakfast was ex apart from having to make your own toast with a toaster that you couldn't leave or your toast burnt... more

OK, stop #3 on our south-west break. After the Tresanton up the road, this was basically a dump. The room was 80s decor, tired curtains, carpets, lights, bed etc. The bathroom had CARPET down, and needless to say reeked. OK, so the room was dire. But the food was great! Having steadied ourselves for the worst, we had the best... more

This is not so much a hotel as a pub with rooms above. Our room had a beautiful view but this is no reason for the hotelier to charge such high prices-not value for money. The bathroom was cramped and dated with an electric shower which woke the dead (the next door one went off early in the morning sounding... more
