Location and attention from the staff was excellent. We felt that the rooms needed updating to achieve the highest standard. We stayed in Puffin room and the view of the harbour was superb. Breakfast and evening meals were of the highest standard. We hope to return next year. more

We stayed at the Idle Rocks Hotel for 4 nights in June 2009 as our son was getting married in St Mawes Castle. He had also booked in this hotel as was his younger brother. Our room was called Curlew. It was rather small and got a bit hot during the day (no air-conditioning). It also faced the back road... more

Just returned from 3 nights half board at The Idle Rocks in St Mawes to celebrate our wedding anniversary and would go back again tomorrow if we could. We were made to feel very welcome from the minute we arrived. The restaurant served excellent food, and the staff were trained to a very high standard which all contributed to a... more

We had a very comfortable room with a wonderful view overlooking St Mawes harbour. There were lots of little extras such as dressing gowns and slippers, chocolates on the pillow at night and free bottled water. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the food was superb, although for a non-meat eater the menu was limited so we only... more

Overlooking St Mawes Harbour, the hotel is perfectly placed if you love to be near the water. Staff are friendly and the room we had was cosy but had all the amenities we needed. Breakfast is adequate and evening meals are of a reasonable standard. The terrace and lounge areas are excellent with free wi-fi access available. St Mawes is... more

Super spot - fantastic sea views - great food - great service. We really liked the homely atmosphere at this Hotel, with staff who did their best to please and make the stay very pleasant. Reading other reviews leaves me flabbergasted that those reviewers stayed in the same Hotel! Sure the rooms could be a little bigger and sure the... more

We booked two nights at the Idle Rocks using the hotel's website, which also provided a facility for dinner reservations. When we checked in, however, we were told we could not have dinner that evening at the time requested and we would have to eat early because they would be "busy". We cancelled this and went out to the Rising... more

We stayed here for 2 nights recently in the Dunlin room which is one of the cottage rooms. From the waterside the hotel looks great but looking at it from the road it looks quite tired (and the cottage rooms tacked on the end looked like they could have been public conveniences at some point in the past - very... more

We stayed in a seaview room ( Chough) which must be the tiniest room in the hotel. the room was dated but very clean, the bathroom again dated but reasonably clean, it would have been nice if they had cleaned the dust off the back of the door ! The saving grace was that the weather was gorgeous and if... more
