St Mawes, Cornwall. 17th to 21st of November 2014. Shearing’s coach trip. Stayed at the Ship & Castle Hotel (Room 120), overlooking the sea. Expensive upgrade which cost an extra £156.00 for four nights. But no or should I say, restricted, heating and only between certain hours. We went down to breakfast at 7.30 each morning, apart from our last... More

The location: Stunning....we stayed 2 nights there and loved the area , great if you like to go explore ...well worth a look... The hotel: Well that's a different story I'm afraid ....check in ...10 mins before someone turned up at reception...no apologies offered.... The room: Tired looking decor from 1983 at least , I found the room to be... More

This is an outstanding hotel. Located on the quayside in the small resort of St. Mawes. It is a hotel used and owned by Shearings, the coach tour company, but is above the average. The hotel and staff are very welcoming, and the food is superb. The surrounding area is good for walking and getting away from it all. Falmouth... More

We stayed here at St. Mawes for four nights. The location, right on the seafront is just like in the pictures, absolutely stunning. The hotel is not new and has been added on to over the years. This has resulted in some rooms that have interesting access. To get to ours you took the lift, walked down a short hallway... More

My wife and I returned last Friday from a delightful week with Shearings and enjoyed a very pleasurable stay. The Ship and Castle is a lovely hotel which we would be pleased to return to and to recommend to our friends. It has a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. All the staff we met were very friendly, cheerful and keen... More

We visited the Ship and Castle hotel last week, on a Shearings holiday. I really liked this hotel, its not 5 star, but then we didn't pay for 5 star. Our room was small, but cosy, warm and clean. The food was very nice, and the staff were all lovely, Jackie on reception was very helpful as was Gary behind... More

Just spent 4 nights at the hotel, food good, the hotel was clean and I was happy with my room, it was clean, maybe the carpet had seen better days, but at the price I paid it's excellent value for money. The staff, mainly from Europe were great, nothing was too much trouble they are friendly, helpful and hard working but smiley... More

It's worth knowing that the large village car-park is a couple of hundred yards away, so best not to take too much luggage, and that the cost of parking is £4.50 a day, so a good initial supply of pound coins is useful. Only a few more expensive rooms in the hotel have balconies overlooking the sea, but there are... More

To a certain extent, it's pointless doing an in-depth comparative review of a Shearing's hotel. You probably know that you're going to get a formulated service level, supplied to a budget, and yes, you get what you pay for. That said, at £129 per person for a 3 night stay half board, it has to be considered good value .However,... More
