We booked a weeks break at The Ship and Castle in a superior room with balcony on dinner ,bed and breakfast .Overall giving the price we paid we rated everything and had a very good break. The service in all area's of the hotel was very good . The hotels public areas are up to a high standard of finish.... More

The Hotel was very good.Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was excellent with the service very good. Our room (standard) was clean . The one criticism was the bathroom was cramped, and the shower cubicle had no shelves on which to place shower toiletries. An ideal location for a quiet week end stay.

Forget the long drive, forget no car parking, with a sea view room and wall to wall sunshine this was our perfect week. Hotel food is fairly basic but one can upgrade to the a`la carte menu, we are both in our higher seventies and small appetites were content with the set menu, breakfast lacked fresh fruit though prunes and... Thank you for taking the time to post your review regarding your recent stay with us. It is always a joy to hear that guests have enjoyed their stay with us and even better when those guests are to return and stay with us. It is unfortunate we do not have any car parking but the council car park seconds... More

Firstly let me start by saying if you are forced to stay here (we had little choice due to cost of other hotels) then I advise booking direct with the hotel. We paid £135prpn when we could have paid £80prpn if we had booked directly instead of on a hotel booking website. The hotel is quite similar to Faulty Towers... More

Thank you for your review. To ensure you get the holiday dates you require booking early is always the best option, if you want to wait till the last minute you may be disappointed. Everyone has a choice where they stay you were not forced to book your stay with us. Superior and sea view rooms are available at a... More

Rooms are very small considering the price. Small beds. Weak shower. Hounded by house keeping to exit room. Early exit of 10am. Breakfast terrible. Received wrong order. Bacon and sausage on the verge of being raw. Not much breakfast choice. No fresh fruit etc. Staff helpful but limited availability. Extremely noisy staff outside room. Could hear everything going on. From... More

Thank you for taking the time to review the Ship & Castle. Check out is at 10.00am but this is flexable, if you had asked for a late check out this would not have been a problem. I apologise if the food was not up to your expectations during your stay, we feel there is a good choice for breakfast.... More

The hotel is on a perfect harbour side location with fantastic views from the pleasant bar/lounge area. Our bedroom was a little disappointing - a very compact double (which sadly bore no resemblance to those shown on the hotel website) - but as this was a last minute booking our expectations weren't that high. What let this hotel down was... More

The hotel is in a great location and the facilities are good. The room was satisfactory although the beds were uncomfortable, but the price was OK. However the staff was totally unaware of what it took to provide good customer service. The front desk was unfriendly and not helpful. The bar was unable or unwilling to provide tea, coffee or... We stayed at the Ship & Castle last week from Monday to Friday on a Shearings holiday. This lovely hotel is in such a beautiful location that it was our second visit. The hotel has had a make over since our last visit and we had a sea view, superior room which was perfect - everything in the room worked,... More

We booked again with coast and country for a value for money, dinner bed and breakfast few days away, this time in Cornwall and found the location of this hotel ideal as a base for our coastal path walking. Although a word of warning if high winds are forecast the ferry across to Falmouth doesn't operate which can limit where... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Where the Rivers’ Fal and Percuil meet to join the open sea, St Mawes boasts the perfect picture postcard retreat and at the heart of the village, right on the quay you will find The Ship and Castle Hotel. Once The Ship and Castle Inn, and a warren of small fishermen’s cottages (remnants of which can still be seen at the rear of the existing building) The Ship and Castle is now a 55 bedroom hotel with all the charm and character one would expect for its location. Our bar and lounges offer the perfect location for a peaceful day in St Mawes watching the world go by, or enjoying a traditional Cornish Cream Tea. We have a selection of sea view rooms which understandably are in high demand and are well recommended to make your stay that little bit more special. ... more   less
