We stayed for 2 nights in September. The room we were original given smelt very badly of damp, the bed was extremely uncomfortable and the shower pressure was very low, just a dribble. We asked to change rooms, but as we arrived late we were told we had to wait unit morning when the receptionist would be in. The following... More

My wife & I stayed here for a Saturday night in September. I only booked it on the Friday, and got a good price via laterooms.com. I was concerned, as I only read the reviews after I had booked, but I have to say that we found the hotel to be very good. The welcome was warm and informative, the... More

We stayed here for a few nights back in March. We arrived quite late in the evening and didn't have much of a "welcoming" just a good evening here's your room key and there's the stairs. However we had a lovely peaceful stay, a wonderful view of the harbour and a clean and comfy room. Would recommend this as a... More

OK... I landed at St Mawes with nothing booked... at an exceptionally busy time. A quick scan of the internet suggested everything was booked solid, except that Booking.com showed for rooms still available at the Ship and Castle. Heck... I was standing right beside it, so rather than go through the booking process, I just asked at the reception desk.... More

Thanks for taking time to post a review. Our internet booking sometimes lag behind cancellations and reservations. Our system will show no availability, because a cancellation hasn`t come though to us from the web bookings and vice versa. No member of staff is blunt to customers,” I`m sorry we are full”, seems a polite and reasonable response to me. It... More

The View Cafe - part of the Ship & Castle hotel. We went in for coffee, and seeing as it was wet and cold, we thought we'd make it irish! We were immediately told that the displayed menu (sitting on the counter, as well as every table in the cafe, as it turned out) was for the hotel only, or... More

Please accept my apology for the unacceptable service you received. There no excuses for bad service and rude staff. Your review is being treated very seriously and will be investigated. These problems should never have arisen, because we do serve liqueur coffee`s from the View; along with the full menu. Our coffee machines are electronic and grind fresh coffee beans... More

We travelled with Shearings, the hotel is set right on the harbour and has wonderful views of the countryside and across the sea to Falmouth. We paid extra for a superior room and sea view, well worth it, large balcony looking over the harbour on the first floor, close by lift. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and... More

My husband and I stayed here for a week, travelled by Coach. The hotel is in a wonderful location and the staff are very helpful and friendly. We upgraded to a Superior room with excellent sea views from the balcony, right above the harbour. French windows to step out to the balcony which were brilliant for a breeze on the... More

We have been to a few Coast & Country Hotels and tried the Ship & Castle at St Mawes because we had not been to Cornwall for some time. How glad we were to have given this Hotel a go.The reception was business like but friendly, although there is a lift and we were only on the first floor, there are... More

My husband and I stayed at the Ship and Castle Hotel for 5 days with Coast and Country. We had a wonderful time. The views of the harbour and especially at sunset was stunning. We have just returned from a week here. The hotel is perfectly situated right on the harbour front. Amazing views from the front windows and the restaurant. Our room was basic, but comfy and clean. The staff are so friendly and the restaurant staff are amazing. The food is worthy of a 5:* hotel. Breakfast is a good choice. Our... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Where the Rivers’ Fal and Percuil meet to join the open sea, St Mawes boasts the perfect picture postcard retreat and at the heart of the village, right on the quay you will find The Ship and Castle Hotel. Once The Ship and Castle Inn, and a warren of small fishermen’s cottages (remnants of which can still be seen at the rear of the existing building) The Ship and Castle is now a 55 bedroom hotel with all the charm and character one would expect for its location. Our bar and lounges offer the perfect location for a peaceful day in St Mawes watching the world go by, or enjoying a traditional Cornish Cream Tea. We have a selection of sea view rooms which understandably are in high demand and are well recommended to make your stay that little bit more special. ... more   less
